Our friend and ally Starhawk speaks about how modern culture expects us to keep moving and prevents us from leaning into and fully experiencing grief.
In particular, Starhawk is speaking about the importance of acknowledging climate grief, however, at this present moment in time, most of us are overwhelmed with more grief than we know what to do with.
We love this invitation from Starhawk to allow ourselves to slow down, allow ourselves to feel it.
From apples to ayahuasca, coffee to kurrajong, passionflower to peyote, plants are conscious beings. How they interact with each other, with humanity, and with the world at large has long been studied by researchers, scientists, spiritual teachers and seekers. The Mind of Plants: Narratives of Vegetal Intelligence brings together works from all these disciplines and more in a collection of essays that highlight what we know and what we intuit about botanical life.

The most wonderful video of our author, Erik Ohlsen, seeing his brand new book, The Regenerative Landscaper for the very first time.
There is so much time and energy that goes into producing a book - from gathering and writing, to editorial and development, to artwork and production. There are so many hands and hearts involved in weaving ideas into bodies of work that can be held and shared. Watching Erik unbox his book has us feeling teary-eyed at the many amazing people who helped make this a reality, and grateful to Erik for choosing us to steward this amazing book into the world.

What is biopiracy?
Have you ever heard of biopiracy? 🤔 It's a term used to describe the exploitation of biological resources and traditional knowledge without giving proper credit or compensation to the communities that originated them.
Examples include:
1️⃣ The neem tree is a medicinal plant that has been used in India for centuries to treat various ailments. However, in the 1990s, a US-based company patented an extraction process for neem without consulting Indian farmers or researchers. This led to a legal battle that eventually resulted in the patent being overturned, but it shows how indigenous knowledge can be exploited.
2️⃣ Psilocybe mushrooms have been used in indigenous cultures for thousands of years for their spiritual and medicinal properties. However, in recent years, the growing popularity of psych therapies has led to the commercialization of psilocybin without proper recognition of the indigenous cultures that first used it. This is an example of how traditional knowledge and resources are often exploited for profit.
3️⃣ Rice is a staple crop for many countries, especially in Asia. However, in the 1960s, a US-based company developed a strain of rice that had a higher yield than traditional varieties. This strain, known as "miracle rice," was then distributed to farmers in Asia without proper consultation or compensation. This led to a loss of traditional varieties and a dependence on the patented strain, which could have negative consequences for food security.

Dr Vandana Shiva & Moving at the Pace of the Earth
What does it mean to slow down? 🌀
Last year, ecofeminist and author Vandana Shiva had conversation with author and philosopher, @bayoakomolafeampersand, dialoguing about the perceived tension between the urgency to act and the need to slow down in the face of these urgent times.
Combatting our eco-grief, we might feel an urgency to take action and create change, however, there is also something to be said about the transformative power in making time to slow down and moving at the pace of Nature.
What does slowing down look like for you in your daily life and practice?👇✨

Dennis
The new episode of PSYCHOACTIVE podcast by Ethan Nadelmann is online, this time with Synergetic Press author, Dennis McKenna.
"The renowned ethnopharmacologist and research pharmacognosist, Dennis McKenna, wrote 'The Brotherhood of the Screaming Abyss: My Life with Terence McKenna,' ten years ago. That book is being republished, with a new afterword by Dennis, this month, so it seemed the right moment to talk about their relationship and respective evolutions, the experiences, people, literature and ideas that shaped them, and why Dennis regards the book that he and Terence co-authored in the mid-1970s, Magic Mushroom Grower’s Guide, as perhaps their most significant accomplishment."
