LAST NIGHT: A man was fatally wounded after a shooting occurred near the VFW in La Mirada.

The shooting occurred around 11 p.m. in the 13900 block of Valley View Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Paramedics rushed the shooting victim to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Numerous Blog followers report hearing 4-5 gunshots around 10:58 p.m.
At 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning, homicide investigators remained at the crime scene.
There was no other immediate information available.
Anyone with information regarding the shooting death was urged to call the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.

Submission dates fast approaching for local art show
The annual "Mirrors of Your Mind" Art Show will take place November 18th through the 22nd at the La Mirada Activity Center presented by the Arts Colony of La Mirada.
The open juried show is open to all artists, membership is not required to submit your artwork.
Art submission will take place on Tuesday through Thursday, November 12-14 at the La Mirada Activity Center from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
There is an adult category and a student category. Students from middle school to high school ages are encouraged to enter up to two pieces of their artwork in the student category at no cost.
The art will be on display at the show from November 18 to November 22. The Artist Reception and Awards Ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 23rd, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
In the adult category, the prizes are $350.00 for first place, $200.00 for second place and $100.00 for third place.
In the student category, the prizes are $100.00 for first place, $50.00 for second place and $25.00 for third place.

SATURDAY: New Location for Salute to Veterans Celebration & Concert

The Salute to Veterans Celebration & Concert will take place OUTSIDE this year on Saturday, November 9 at Neff Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The annual event recognizes the many veterans and military families who reside in La Mirada.
Reimagined this year by the La Mirada Veterans Coordinating Council to reach a greater number of veterans and families supporting a loved one currently serving, the event was changed from Monday to Saturday and moved from the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts to Neff Park.
The musical component of the event will remain with a live concert featuring Elemental Funk and The Just Dave Band.
Food will be available for sale and family-friendly activities will be provided. Bring your lawn chairs and picnic blankets to enjoy the patriotic festivities.

THIS EVENING: Meet the candidates vying for a seat on the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District Board Trustee Area 7 representing .
6:00-8:00 p.m. at the La Mirada Activity Center-2nd Floor | 13810 La Mirada Blvd.
This is the first election for the district after recently transitioning from an at-large voting system to a by-area system.
There are seven designated areas for the district-La Mirada is represented by areas 6 & 7.
The election for Area 6 will be in 2026.

SEEMS LIKE YESTERDAY: 10 years ago today in 2014, Quiznos Sub in the Stater Bros center closed its doors.
Across the street, 12 years ago today, Cardinal Liquor closed its doors. The redevelopment of the Crossroads Center (Walmart Neighborhood Market) also forced the closure of two other community favorites, So Cal Pizza and Anna Mia Italian restaurant.

Over one hundred people packed the Activity Center this past Wednesday for the City Council District 2 Candidates Forum.
Michelle Velasquez-Bean, Chris Pflanzer, Dan Siwak and John Sarega shared their vision and ideas with the captivated and engaged audience.
The winner will serve the remainder of the term of former Mayor Andrew Sarega, who resigned earlier this year in May.
Great job by organizer Tammye McDuff and everyone involved in producing this event-there was a lot of positive energy in the room.
Only residents living in District 2 can vote in this race.
Election Day is November 5th with voting centers open for eleven consecutive days beginning October 26th.
