“The company was founded as a direct result of my desire to publish the art books I wanted to buy myself,” states publisher John Fleskes. I have a self-drive that makes this approach a natural part of what Flesk Publications is all about. It isn’t a policy, it’s who we are.”

The DWJ, Nick Dragotta, and David Brothers signing at Cape & Cowl Comics was unlike any store signing that I've ever seen before.

These guys were scheduled to sign from 2:00 to 6:00PM. They ended up signing until closer to 10:00PM. And this was only because the store had to eventually cap off the line!

People began to camp out on the sidewalk at 4:00 AM that morning. The staff at Cape & Cowl were highly professional and handed out snacks and water to those in line.

This video is during the last hour. As you can see, everyone was still in high spirits as they made sure each fan received friendly attention.

An unbelievable event!

The Horror Art of Bruce Timm book update!

I actually have an advance copy of the book right here on my desk as I type this. I’m intentionally not sharing any previews or information about the book yet. It has been printed and it’s making the journey from Hong Kong to Santa Cruz, CA along with the new Art of Daniel Warren Johnson art book. Vicky and I are working on the B.T. promotional page and banners for our website. I’ll let you know once we have the book available to order. This will be around the beginning of December. More news coming soon!

Gary Gianni and I have been talking a bunch about future book collections of his drawings and paintings. We're currently narrowing down the ideas that are floating around in our heads. Our goal is to have something come out in 2026. Gary has been gathering images to help us visualize the look and feel of the book. We're pretty excited to bring you a new Gianni collection!

The art shown her is from The Art of Gary Gianni for George R. R. Martin’s Seven Kingdoms book collection that we published in 2019.

Vicky and I drove through the LA heatwave midday today and arrived back home in Santa Cruz this evening. We spent a full enjoyable week in Southern California meeting with various awesome people.

Today was a special day. We visited our friend Bob Chapman at his Graphitti Designs office. There are only a handful of people who truly inspire me and Bob is one of them. He's been publishing and making things happen for far longer than I have. What we share in common is that the two of us started businesses from the ground up. And we both share the same mission and ethics, which is that we care for the community and really care about the relationships with those we work with. I have clear memories of buying Graphitti Design books when I was a teenager. I never imagined I'd be a publisher one day and count Bob as a friend. I'm a lucky guy!

Speaking of lucky, I picked up volume 1 of the limited signed Moebius book series and volume 1 of the limited Akira book series from Bob today! These are historical books that I'm so excited about reading and adding to my library. Thanks Bob!

A big thank you to everyone who visited us at our Flesk booth during Lightbox Expo!

On behalf of Vicky, William Stout, Terry Dodson, and myself, we greatly appreciate those who said hello and supported us. We saw many new and old friends as well as met many new ones.

I can't stress enough how much we enjoyed talking with young professionals and students who asked for advice about their desire to make a career in the arts. This is one of my favorite parts of this event. The abilities and passion you all have assure me that the art community will continue to be an amazing place to be a part of for decades to come.

Thanks to team Lightbox Expo and the Fireflies for taking care of us!

Our Tyler Jacobson, J.A.W. Cooper, Tran Nguyen, Mark Schultz, Gary Gianni, Franklin Booth, and Jeffrey Alan Love books were all very popular. We had a great time!

Here is a little insight into how we work with William Stout on his Comics Volume One book.

Before leaving for Lightbox Expo, I made a printout of the latest iteration of the book design. Despite sitting next to Bill for three days throughout the event, we were far too busy to go over it together during the show.

What we did instead was to get together at Bill's house this afternoon. There, we were free from distractions as we went page-by-page to discuss the nuances of the text, art, and the layout.

As Bill made comments, I would write down notes and ideas that I'll apply during my next design pass.

This is a short video of us working together today. We didn't know Vicky was recording us. This is a pure, genuine look at us at work.

Our goal is to have this first volume done by the end of November. We'll keep you updated.

This is how we enjoy our time together while waiting for our restaurant table.

We close out the day with big smiles on our faces as we look forward to tomorrow.
