Flesk Publications www.fleskpublications.com Flesk Publications pride itself on being different. The result is a unique and individual collection produced with passion.

Since 2002, Flesk Publications has been promoting the arts through quality collections.

“The company was founded as a direct result of my desire to publish the art books I wanted to buy myself,” states publisher John Fleskes. A creative approach is pursued by exploring the aesthetics of each artist in order to design a package that serves as an extension of him or herself. Flesk produces a full l

ine of art books featuring the best of comics and graphic novels, fantasy, illustration, pinup and fine arts. Fleskes shares a passion for the arts and feels a responsibility in making sure he represents his artists with the best books possible while also raising the art form. “We hope to educate the public to expect a higher standard from publishers,” continues Fleskes. “We take our work very seriously yet enjoy the process. Whether it’s a 16-page chapbook or a 300-page oversized art book, we give each collection our full attention to meet our standards first. I have a self-drive that makes this approach a natural part of what Flesk Publications is all about. It isn’t a policy, it’s who we are.”

A very happy birthday to ElfQuest!

We're sharing a bunch of news from the latest ElfQuest newsletter that notes how special 2025 will be. Much to our delight, ElfQuest is still going strong!

-----------------------------

Happy ElfQuest’s 47th Birthday!

ElfQuest first appeared in Fantasy Quarterly #1, released February 28, 1978. We’ve long considered today’s date as EQ’s official “birthday.”

As ElfQuest turns 47, we have much to celebrate. Dark Horse Comics is re-releasing ElfQuest: The Original Quest: Books 1-4 throughout this year. Book 1 hits the stands next week! And to everyone who purchases these new editions, we’re offering a special exclusive print!

Only days ago, the exciting news broke about the Wendy and Richard Pini Comics and Cartoons Endowment at Columbia University.

Wendy and Richard have a busy 2025 appearance schedule. They’ll appear both in-person at conventions, as well as in special livestream masterclass events that are open to all.

On top of all that, we’re working on more projects yet to be revealed.

It’s going to be a busy year. We look forward to celebrating with you!

The Horror Art of Bruce Timm is coming later this year from Flesk! This book is a blast to work on and it will be loaded with pieces by B.T. We aim to have it done by this summer. We'll set a release date at that time. Stay tuned!

This piece is in Naughty and Nice: The Good Girl Art of Bruce Timm. We keep seeing copies selling for over $100 on Ebay when we have plenty of brand new hardcover copies for $49.95 on our Flesk website. We limited it to two copies per person to help you get it for the best price and to prevent flippers from buying too many copies. At 9 x 12" and 256 pages, Naughty and Nice collects an extensive survey of Bruce Timm’s celebrated “after hours” private works. Sample pages are up on our website.

Dirge by J.A.W. Cooper!

Late last week, as we were packing books to take to SHM Con, we decided to bring a bunch of copies of Cooper's Gilt, Pastoral, and The Genesis Collection. Since this was a student run event at San Jose State University our guess was that Cooper's books would be well-received. We're glad we did since these three titles were by far the most popular books that we brought to the show.

As a student approaches, we're always curious to see which book people pick up to view first. In most cases it is a Cooper collection. Despite loading up on a bunch of copies, these all sold out quickly. It's always validating to see a young audience so energetic for Cooper's artwork!

Once again, we had a great time at the show and look forward to going again next year.

We had an amazing time at SHM Con last Saturday! Thanks so much to the faculty and students who welcomed us to this exciting event held at the San Jose State University campus. We gave away 240 copies of books for free to students, and heavily discounted our titles to make them extra affordable for this upcoming generation.

We arrived with 30 packed boxes of books and went home with 5 partially filled boxes. It feels good knowing our Flesk books are in the hands of people who will appreciate them.

We saw many friends, familiar faces, and met a lot of new people. It was a ton of fun. See you next time!

SHM Con is this Saturday! This student run event is happening at the San Jose State campus from 10am to 4pm in the student union ballroom. We're bringing a lot of discounted Flesk books, AND a few hundred copies of two titles to give away for FREE to students. This event is open to the public. Tickets are $10 at the door. We'll see you there!

We have had a busy week working with Daniel Warren Johnson on his upcoming big art book collection. We've been having a series of Zoom session to gather tons of commentary that will be sprinkled throughout the book. Dan's insight is just as fantastic as his art. It's extraordinary what DWJ has accomplished in just ten years in the business. We look forward to releasing this celebration packed with many of his favorite pieces later this year.

This art is for the variant cover to The Moon is Following Us #1. Issue #6 comes out this week!

I'm sorry to hear the news about Jim Silke's passing last night. Jim was the consummate gentleman. Always dressed well, with an impeccable way of speaking, a gentle laugh and oftentimes smiling, very engaging and curious, and with a flair for perfection in all that he was involved in. Just looking at him, I imagine he was the living embodiment of a Hollywood actor from the golden age. It's inspiring to see how his career as an artist started so late in his life. He will be missed.

We're very excited to see over 300 of you supporting this new Jeff Love three book project so far. Thanks so much for helping us to bring these books to life through our Flesk Kickstarter campaign!

All three books have been printed and are currently being prepared to ship to us from Hong Kong to our Santa Cruz, California office. Our shipper informed us that we can expect to receive the books around mid-April. Jeff will visit us at that time to sign all of the books, the large prints, and the bonus print. We will then begin packing and mailing the pledges.

We feel at ease knowing we have your backing and are so far ahead on this project. We've known Jeff for just over 10 years now. He's a great guy and his art is so incredibly unique. It's such an honor to have this opportunity to publish his stories and to share these books with you all.

We look forward to keeping you up to date with regular updates. Thanks again!

James and the Steve's!

I had such a good time last Sunday.

Steve Wyatt put on the East Bay Comic Con in Concord, California on February 2nd. This is a one-day event where we get to see many locals who we've known for decades. We were lucky to be set up next to our friend, Steve Morger. And my good buddy James met up with me to hang out for the day.

I'm so glad James came so we could catch up and talk with people who came to our table together. James is much better at talking with people than I am.

For a little one day event we were surprisingly busy. I brought along five boxes of bumped books and heavily discounted them. We sold through four of the boxes, along with a bunch of new copies of various titles.

James and I even saw some people who were customers at Lee's Comics back when we worked there together in the early nineties.
Catching up with Morger was great as well. He's one of the two guys who runs Lake Como. All around, it was an enjoyable day.
I prefer these one and two day smaller events over the big mega events. I don't have any interest in exhibiting at 4-5 day events anymore. These 1-3 day events are more intimate and easier to exhibit at. And I'm back home quickly to continue working on new books.

A big thanks to Wyatt for the invitation!

Good news for our LA friends. DWJ will be making an appearance at Golden Apple Comics next Tuesday, February 11th!

And as a reminder, we're working hard on the new Art of Daniel Warren Johnson book that will be coming from Flesk later this year. This book is a blast to put together! We'll make sure this collection is completely done before we offer it for pre-order.

Thank you to everyone who backed our latest Jeffrey Alan Love Kickstarter campaign.

A note from Jeff:

Thank you to everyone who has backed the book! I can't tell you how much it means to me to be able to see my stories brought to life, to show them to my children, to see them on bookshelves. Thank you to Flesk Publications for being such a dedicated partner and friend as we try to make the best books we can. It's hard to believe we've made four books in nine years together. Here's to many more years. Thank you again everyone.

Now, back to John:

We're very grateful to have your support so that we can bring you Jeff's latest graphic novel, as well as new updated editions of his previous two titles. We've been working with Jeff for nearly 10 years, and he is such a great person. He's one of the most unique artists working today.

We'll be keeping you up to date on the full process as this campaign runs and up until your rewards arrive with you. The books are completely done and are with the printer. We look forward to sharing more soon. For now, we want to express our appreciation to you all. Thank you!
