Fire breaks out in Capitola Village Christmas morning
The demonstration, planned by surgery, pharmacy, emergency room and environmental services staff at Watsonville Community Hospital comes after the workers’ contract expired in August.
The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) represents nearly 200 workers at the hospital.

The National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado touched down in Scotts Valley at approximately 1:40 p.m. today.
Meteorologist Matt Mehle told Lookout that initially, the weather service picked up “weak rotations” in a storm system they were tracking, and hesitated to issue a tornado report until they saw reports from social media posts showing a tornado twisting through Scotts Valley. Mehle said the agency was sending a team to survey the area.

Roughly 100 police officers from as far away as Modesto, Sacramento and San Francisco, along with officers from the Santa Cruz Police Department and California Highway Patrol, remain on campus this morning as about 200 pro-Palestinian protesters continue to block access to the school’s main entrance.
The demonstration began a little after midnight. By 2 a.m., the group had swelled to hundreds of students standing opposite dozens of police officers, many in riot gear.
UCSC said about 80 protesters have been arrested.
