Had a great time sharing during Teach-In Day at Crooms Academy. These kids are the future, and they seemed very interested in the music business!

My name is Dakota Hurley. I’ve been a professional musician for around 11 years. As an independent artist, I began building a brand in late 2015. By summer of 2016 I had already played some larger venues and opened for some bigger artists, as well as started the process of writing my first album. Through the course of 2016 and 2017 I attempted numerous times to work with various producers and engineers to hopefully bring my dream (my precious album) to life, but alas, I could never seem to find someone I gelled with or who didn’t seem like they were just going to take my money. Then it hit me--I had been making demo recordings of my songs using GarageBand for almost 2 years at that point, and I really enjoyed that process--almost as much as writing the music itself. It was time for me to enroll in school to learn how to make records--the right way.
So there I was, a new student at Florida Institute of Recording Sound Technology, where I learned that a lot of the things I was doing on my GarageBand recordings were perfectly fine... and some were... well, dead wrong. After just two months in school I self-produced my debut single, “Riding Out” which released on January 30th, 2018. The more I learned about audio, and the more people I met, the more I realized that I have a real passion for the art form that is audio engineering. Although I originally enrolled in school to learn how to produce records for myself (and I fully intend to continue to do so), I realized that I want to do this as a career--but I want to do it differently. See, at no point in time did I sit in school thinking “wow, I’m going to get rich on this!” Quite the contrary, my thought was “wow, I can offer this service to musicians like myself at a reasonable rate, actually take interest in their project, and have them walk away with a dope record and a good feeling in their chest.”
My mission for Dakota Hurley Records is to provide great sounding records to clients and not break the bank in the process... so hopefully “clients” become “friends” and a “paid recording session” becomes “making music with my buddy Dakota.” Music = community, not competition.
