"Winter Nightz" {Episode 8} "Shivery Sandusky Street Scene"
Location: (Downtown, Sandusky, Oh)
Date: Sunday, January 12th, 2025

Narrative: In downtown Sandusky, the beauty of winter is on full display. Even after the Christmas festivities, and New Years celebrations, there is always something to admire. For me, it the simple things. A casual walk along the pier, a drive down market street, a quick walk along the steps of the Schade-Mylander plaza, or enjoying the lights of the nearby buildings in the downtown area. There is something about the Indigo skies, and the yellow glow from the street scene that is always so welcoming. I captured these about a week ago, and hopefully there are some Sandusky lovers who can appreciate the winter beauty even on the shivering Sandusky nights.

On your visit to the historic Merry-Go-Round Museum ,which would you prefer? The white fluffy clouds & gentle blue skies above that leaves you breathless? "Winter Nightz" {Episode 7} "Arctic Sunset"
Location: (St. Mary Catholic Church ,429 Central Avenue, Sandusky, Oh)
Date: Tuesday, January 14th, 2025

Narrative: As the day came to a close, I stepped out the building & could tell the arctic chill was here. With the temperature dropping rapidly, I approached the exterior doors placing the brim of my hat to the window. As I looked outward I could see the snow begin to pool along the dissolving salt crystals left on the concrete steps. I stepped out, and watched the gently falling snow flakes descend from the heavens & quickly dissolve on my worn black hoodie. It gave me a sense of nostalgia. Walking down the steps, I continued across the grass clearing carefully avoiding the large banks of snow. I got in my vehicle, wiped the snow form the windshield, and went home with the intent to get my camera. The snow was still falling so I thought I could catch some evening magic. But by the time I returned, the snow fall had slowed & I wasn't sure what captures I could get. But as fate would have it I was in the right place at the right time to catch this magic moment. A snow blanketed city, & a glorious sunset. Something we don't see a whole lot of this time of season. Appreciation the moments when they come.

"Winter Nightz" {Episode 6} "Chilly Courthouse Captures"
Location: (323 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, Oh)
Date: Sunday, January 12th, 2025

Narrative: Its Sunday, so you decide to go on an evening walk. You pull up to a vacant lot, and grab your favorite camera. As you depart the warm comfort of your vehicle, the haughty lake air pierces your body. The frigid wind blows, & the airborne snow quickly grazes your cheek like tiny grains of sand. As you exhale, the fog from your breath condenses, & your lips begin to numb. It's quiet..... & the winter ambiance is palpable. A silent night with nothing but the sounds of the crunching snow under your feet, and the occasional car driving by in the distance. The frigid chills nip at your fingertips as you manipulate the joysticks and make your way 80 meters into the sky. With precision, you navigate your way around the park, carefully avoiding the tall trees, power lines, and crosses from the nearby church buildings. As you snap your first image, you realize the good folks at the City of Sandusky left the lights on, and its magic hour!!

“Winter Nightz" {Episode 5} "Merry Memories, Christmas Captures"
Location: Sandusky, Oh, (Cable District ,Wayne St. ,Columbus Avenue ,Downtown, Finch St. ,Washington St. ,Market St)
Date(s): December 2nd - December 25th

Narrative: The winter season is always a mixed bag for me. Cold air, Icy roads, and scrapping windshields are never a pleasant combination. But when it comes to beauty & the experience, Winter is simply unmatched. The subtly falling snow flakes blanketing the sidewalks and streets while you look out your window. The snowball fights, and snow angels. Tasting the snow as it gently falls upon your tongue. The casual car rides in the evening as your parents take you on a tour of the festive holiday lights. So many fond memories just come to mind. As I walked around capturing the moments, I thought about how many new memories are being created. Each home I passed by, I thought about what their traditions might be, or the gifts that some child will receive this year. This holiday season, don't forget the hugs, the kisses, the joys, and happiness. When I was young, I was always so excited about the gifts, now I realize seeing Christmas WAS the gift. The gifts are simply gratis. Merry Christmas everyone & remember the moments!

"Holiday Remembrance" (Huron Boat Basin Office Building, 330 Main St., Huron, Oh)

Narrative: A few weeks ago, The Abbey Rose Foundation had its Holiday Remembrance Celebration. This nonprofit organization dedicated to providing comfort for families grieving lost children was established back in 2011. This free event sponsored by the Abbey Rose Foundation was wonderful with live music, uplifting words, and delightful treats for all who attended. The founders, Sam Kudrin & Suzanne Kudrin set the tone with words of hope and inspiration to those who are still grieving the loss of a child. As I carefully listened after each shutter press, I was so inspired watching Sam & Suzanne's beautiful children speak with such etiquette and maturity. So amazing that these well-spoken young people are helping others on their journey of healing. Although I couldn't help to feel sad in some ways watching people place their lost children's names upon the Remembrance Christmas tree, it was also inspiring to know that despite our struggles, we are not alone. And through togetherness and thoughtfulness, we can all help each other deal with losing someone significant. Here are some captures from their event and you can keep up with the latest from them at https://www.facebook.com/AbbeyRoseKudrin

“Winter Nightz" {Episode 3} "Amber Ambiance "
Location: (531 Wayne Street St. Sandusky, Oh)
Date: Wednesday, December 18th, 2024

Narrative: Even after years of daylight savings, still awkward seeing the darkness so early. However, one of the joys is seeing all the festive homes in the night. Speaking of which, this glorious Wayne St. home is still here. I just love how the windows glow in the night complimented so well with all the golden yellow lights across the estate. Anytime of year this place is gorgeous, but at night it has just the perfect ambiance for the Christmas season.

"Christmas Captures for Canines" (Schade Mylander Plaza, 108 W. Shoreline Drive, Sandusky, Oh)

Narrative: An invite to an event at the Sandusky Christmas Market sparked my curiosity. Given the brisk weather we had earlier in the week I was unsure of how many would show. But, I was pleasantly surprised by the turnout. After I spoke to several colleagues , vendors, and Sandusky City officials, it was time to get to work. All the pooches and their respective owners gave me so much joy! The excitement and smiles left me feeling that there was still good things in the world. Watching the children walk around the market enjoying various food from all the vendors and petting the dogs was really nice as well. Joys, smiles, and laughter was all around as everyone watched the canines work themselves into a frenzy. With good music, good winter weather, and good dogs, what is there not to like? Here are some candid shots from my time there. Be sure to follow Sandusky Christmas Market to see future portraits from this lovely event.

“Winter Nightz" {Episode 2} "Lustrous Lighting Ceremony"
Location: (Washington Park, 200 Washington St. Sandusky, Oh)
Date: Friday, November 29th, 2024

Narrative:
On a chilly evening in November, I head downtown for what has been a tradition of mine. After parking I quickly realized I should have worn something warmer, ...and brought some gloves. Undaunted, I went from location to location. Quietly listening to my favorite Christmas songs, I embraced all the holiday festivities and was sure to give the biggest smile to all the families that came my way. Admittedly, the numbingly frigid breeze gave my body quite the chill. With my warm breath fogging the viewfinder & my fingertips tingling from the frosty temperatures, it made every shudder press more meaningful. After each shot, I quickly tucked my camera under my arm, and feverishly placed my hands into my coat pockets trying to warm them. After an 1/2 hour or so, my lips began to numb, so I took to the skies to give my body a break from the battering arctic chill. The lighting ceremonies are always gorgeous but add 300 ft and you get a much more comprehensive view. From nativity scenes, and Santa houses, to Candy Cane fixtures, and luminous museums, this lustrous park has it all. Everything was just as beautiful as I remember, with some new additions. Another fantastic job from the good folks at the City of Sandusky.

“Winter Nightz" {Episode 1} "Magical Marketplace"
Location: (108 W. Shoreline Drive, Sandusky, Oh)
Date: Friday, November 29th, 2024

Narrative: After taking some shots on Washington St. I headed back to my vehicle for a warm up. After-which I came down Water St. to see if any changes were made. And boy was I impressed. The Christmas magic was on full display. Bright lights, and gorgeous decorations illuminated the plaza. The handsome looking nutcracker soldiers were so great to look at. They looked so sharp and well placed. The “Sandusky Christmas Market” with its vibrant gold hue was absolutely gorgeous in the night sky. The Christmas tree adorned with all manor of colors looked sensational. And all the accent lights, and festive music created a very Christmas feel. The whole scene was just splendid. It looked like someone put sometime in creating a great atmosphere. Just the perfect way to set the tone for Christmas. Well done!!

Autumn Daze {Episode 11} "Chestnut Charm"
Location: (1416 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, Oh)
Date: Saturday, November 2nd, 2024

Narrative: Always something interesting happening on this street. On any given day, you might see someone walking their dog, mowing the lawn or even raking leaves. Along my walk, I came across this wonderful home. I thought it was one of the best showcases of autumn I've seen thus far. From tall trees, and fall leaves, this place just screams fall. I just loved the brown chestnut color of the brick siding. The complimentary colored roofing tiles & lovely front porch were quite pleasing to the eye with their smooth grooves, and warm color tones. Combined with the cream colored siding, the home looks like a warm gingerbread sandwich cookie. Not to be outdone, the decor on the front lawn was perfectly set to an autumn tone. The beautiful autumn scarecrows were all artistic and handsome looking. A charming home indeed!

"Norfolk Southern Sunset" (201 Putnam St., Sandusky, Oh)

Narrative: A quiet evening at the boat launch led to some beautiful sights. While I am taking off and having my anxiety attack of flying so high over water, I am always mesmerized by Lake Erie Sunsets. No matter how many times you see one, it's like the first time. I can just imagine being out on the docks and being distracted by these beautiful sights. The cobalt blue, with the sherbet orange just always looks so good, and peaceful. Don't take them for granted, enjoy them while they are here.

Autumn Daze {Episode 10} "An afternoon at the Cooke-Dorn Estate"
Location: (1415 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, Oh)
Date: Saturday, October 26th, 2024

Narrative: Each day I have the luxury of traveling down Columbus avenue. My eyes glance across the wonderful buildings this street has & I always find myself saying, " I need to get a better look at this place or that place." Well, I finally crossed that off my bucket list. A gorgeous front yard with two amazing beautiful trees in its front yard. The building itself is quite the spectacle with its chiseled brick and seasoned 19th century architecture. It just provides so much character to this historical site. How amazing that this Dorn estate was given to the Ohio History Connection.

"No Greater Love" (Veterans Memorial Park, Central Avenue, Sandusky, Oh)

Narrative: Gospel of John: Chapter 15: Verse 13

In honor of Veteran's day I thought I would share these. I took them back in 2022 but they still hold a historical significance. I have family members in the service and it always help me have a greater appreciation for their service. While I was here thinking about the fallen, this scripture kept coming to me. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." Wise and true words!!

Autumn Daze {Episode 9} "SouthSide Reflection"
Location: (Buchanan St./ Pierce St., Sandusky, Oh)
Date: Saturday, October 26th, 2024

Narrative: As a youth I lived on the south side of Sandusky. The 1st image is of Pierce Street. In the early 90's, this was the street all the 6th-grade kids would walk down as we left Mills School. Largely because It was a spot for afternoon ....entertainment. From jumping in the piles of leaves in yards to running through leaves on the curbside, this was a fun place in the autumn. Images 2 & 3 are from Buchanan Street, where I lived. When I wasn't dribbling my basketball, I would ride my bike down towards Camp St. Pedaling as fast as I could, I would pretend I was the "Streethawk". (80's show reference) Humming the melody in my head, I would blaze down the street and come to a screeching halt at this corner. Anywho, the south side has always been a special place for me. Never realized how beautiful it was then, but I certainly do now.

Autumn Daze {Episode 8} "Autumn Cathedral"
Location: (St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky, Oh)
Date: Saturday, October 19th, 2024

Narrative: Never realized we had so many trees in the downtown ish area. You kind of just drive by them but in the air it kind of gives you a newfound respect for them. Additionally, they are great at creating rhythm & unity in a composition. And those autumn colors are just so splendid. Those warm & green hues just create so much harmony within the background. But that's not that hard when you have such a beautiful house of worship as your central focus point. The suns rays cascading from the west just creates a perfect perspective for lights and shadows. Another Autumn day, another beautiful scene in Sandusky, Oh.
