"SPRING-ing in the Season" {Episode 6} "Sloan's Residence"
Location: (Rush R. Sloane House, 403 East Adams Street, Sandusky, Ohio 44870)
Date: Wednesday, April 15th, 2025

Narrative: Driving in the downtown area you always come across some gems. Adams street houses one of the most historic buildings in the state. This renovated home was the former home of Sandusky Businessman, and abolitionist Rush Richard Sloane. Purchased in 1853, the home is known to be one of the safe houses on the Underground Railroad. With the help of some good stewards, the home has seen a hefty share of improvements and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The way that the sun just cascades along the sides of the building was just divine. It just has an undeniable charm and character to it. Next time you are in the area give it a look.

Location: (Sandusky Library, 114 West Adams Street, Sandusky, Ohio 44870)
Date: Wednesday, April 16th, 2025

Narrative: It's something about the spring time that is always inspiring. Walking about and watching nature just come alive. The flowers budding, the squirrels coming down from the trees to embrace the warmth of the sun’s rays....it's just a beautiful thing to watch. While I was out soaking up the sun I came across the Sandusky library. I remember taking some last year I believe it was in the night time so I thought I would swing by during the sunset. It's something special about how the sun just cascades along the textured brick and mortar of each building. I had never seen the building look so lustrous and full of life. It's finally starting to feel like spring!!

Location: (Historic Downtown Sandusky, Sandusky, Ohio 44870)
Date: Sunday, April 14th, 2025

Narrative: After a long day of meetings and teaching you take a look out your window. “Hmmm....7:45....glad we have more time in the day”, you say to yourself as you grab your cameras and head out the door. Minutes pass by and you are now heading down the very familiar Huron avenue. Taking a look to your left you see the sun is setting fairly rapidly. The city's tallest most detailed buildings now look more like silhouettes amongst the gorgeous sunsetting sky. Minutes later you arrive downtown. Unsure of where to begin you park at a vacant lot across the street from your local library. It's a little past 8 and you take to the skies. After ascending to roughly 100 meters you navigate around the downtown air space carefully trying not to disturb the local gulls. Strafing from right to left and adjusting your exposure levels you do your best to capture the essence of the moment. Trying to tell a story from the fractions of seconds of your capture. The orange & yellow hues of the sky mesmerize you & with each button press. You slowly realize the night sky is quickly descending upon you. 25 minutes later, you arrive back at home. You unpack, make some adjustments and here are the spoils from your citrus moments on a holy Monday.

"The Beauty of WASHINGTON" (384 E. Washington Street, Sandusky, Oh)

Narrative: Back in January I came across this delightful looking establishment. Located right in the heart of downtown, the aura of blue and white just stands out. The aptly titled "THE WASHINGTON" was built back in the 1890's & has been renovated to preserve its historic beauty. Years later it has been repurposed into a STR. Aesthetically it was quite pleasing to look at!! The blues were perfectly highlighted with some beautiful led lamps and accents lights. I just loved its nostalgia appeal and it's charming presentation. The owners took great care to preserve the history of the building's original character, yet mix modern decor to make it more lively. The staircase was absolutely stunning, and the front porch was so inviting. It just reminded me of those summer nights sitting outside and enjoying the warm weather. Another great find on a night drive in Sandusky, Oh.

{What I said then...}
"KLV Insight: Took an evening drive to look at the pier and came across the glorious state theater all lit up. Boy does it look nice. Looks even better in person. The lights were so beautiful and just lit up the whole street scene. Seems like it's been quite a while since I seen it look so wonderful. What a glorious time to be alive!! Have a great one guys. Big day tomorrow!!"

{What I think now...}
"I remember going out the night before. It was around 11pm on the 7th, and I was thinking... "Wow, tomorrow it's really about to happen!!" There was a slew of celestial events that year which I always find so fascinating. In terms of the shots, you guys know how much I enjoy the night shots. The state theater was all lit up and beautiful and I took so many shots that I didn't share all of them. From what I can tell, they came out pretty well. Hopefully the theater will be back up and running to it's former glory soon."

Location: (Sandusky Yacht Club, 529 E. Water Street, Sandusky, Ohio 44870)
Date: Sunday, April 6th, 2025

Out and about putting the finishing touches on a project and came across this delightful scene. It was mostly a cloudy afternoon, but around the 7 o'clock hour the heavens opened up, and you could see those beautiful vanilla rays peering out the skies like lightning. The rays/lightning seemed to originate from the backdrop off our delightful coal docks, which was a point of interest in my travels. I was in the vicinity of the yacht club so I figured I would get a little creative with the composition. Cloudy days sometimes make us sad, but I guess my take away is that the sadness doesn't last forever, and spring joy is on the way.

"The Queen's Hidden Gem" (Queen Anne Bed & Breakfast, 714 Wayne St., Sandusky, OH 44870)
(Monday, February 24th 2025)

Sandusky is just full of hidden Gems. Heading down Wayne St. and I couldn't help but notice this beautiful place. The delightful lights in the windows and textured brick were just so pleasing to look at. So I pulled over and just took a moment to admire it. This historic home built in 1891 was purchased by John T Mack and his wife, Flora, in 1887. John from NY became part part-owner & business manager of the Sandusky Register. Flora Alice acted as President of the Sandusky Register Publishing Co., until her death 1925. The home was built using limestone from a nearby quarry across the street. Passed down through the generations from a few different owners it's now a short-term rental used to share the rich history with fellow visitors. Each guest room is named in honor of historic Sandusky families. Sometimes just drive. You never know what kind of treasures you are going to find in this historic city.

"Night at the Palace" (Lorain Palace Theatre, 617 Broadway, Lorain, Oh 44052)

Narrative: It's been a while since I have been up to Lorain. Pulling down Broadway it was a homely yet prestigious feel. I could feel the energy where I was. I just felt like this place was ...significant. Walking in was a treat as the place was quite stunning. The lead event technician escorted me down the walkways & backstage where I got a chance to say hello to the ladies before getting a backstage scouting report for my shots.

A short while later, a fairly tall resolute-looking man began walking down the aisle and coming my way. He had a leadership quality about him. We met near the technician booth and he gave me a firm handshake. This was Lance. Respectful and knowledgeable he began giving me a sort of scouting report of the places he felt would best help me capture the event. After a short conversation, he left it in my hands to do what was best, and then left me to my own ends.

A short while later, I walked towards the stage attempting to capture some footage and plan out my shoot. I soon overheard someone call my name. I looked up and saw a beautiful woman approaching me. Medium height, medium build and an almost glamorous like appearance. Her hair was medium in length and almost silver in color. She had these delightful curls that had a bounce to it with each step she took across the stage. This was Claudia. This was our first time speaking in person. As kind as she was beautiful, she had nothing but highly esteemed words for me. And I the same of her with her remarkable talents of singing and playing the guitar.

Making some finishing touches, I caught an eye of a woman who looked fairly tall and seemed to be garnering lots of attention. After a quick analysis I recognized the clothing and we met towards the midpoint of the theatre. She was adorned with black attire, black nail color, and a shiny bracelet. Her long goldish blond hair descended down her shoulders gracefully like waterfalls. This was Shannon, who pretty much arranged this delightful meeting between us. Courteous and soft-spoken she made quite the impression. Her face was radiant and full of color. She looked even nicer in person than my pictures. After exchanging pleasantries, she was off being a social butterfly and I was back making final preparations for a remarkable Night at the palace.

"SPRING-ing in the Season" {Episode 2} "Lake Erie Love"
Location: (Nickel Plate Beach, Nickel Plate Drive, Huron, Oh 44839)
Date: Tuesday, March 18th, 2025

Narrative: Walking on the sands of Lake Erie is always a joy. As I walked forward towards the lighthouse, there was a clearing on the left side where some large stones were. I walked step by step as the tiny grains of sand began to slowly seep into the crevices of my shoes. Soon I reach a large square stone which led to a narrow sidewalk like path down across the lake. Step by step I made my way upon the uneven rocks, occasionally looking at the Canada geese on the opposite side of the beach. I reached the end and took a shot at the glorious lighthouse that has captured so many of my captures over the years. After returning, I came across this lovely sign, and I thought it was appropriate for the love I have for all these beautiful nearby cities.

Location: (Ottawa County Municipal Court, 315 E. Madison Street, Port Clinton, Oh 43452
Date: Sunday, March 9th, 2025

Narrative: After swinging by Derby Pond, I wanted to check out the courthouse in Port Clinton. I had been there before but it was some time last year, so I needed to get a more updated viewing. After parking and taking in the entire scene, the thing that really stands out to me is the sheer scale of this building. Roughly 4 acres of property, this 1800s edifice is still glorious. It was around sunset when I arrived, which cast a beautiful golden hue over the whole lot. There was so much texture and vibrance to each part of the building. The stalwart brick and mortar construction is truly a symbol of strength, as it has withstood the test of time for nearly a century. Its large Ivory clock just adds so much character & detail. Its marvelous architecture looks majestic like a castle. A fortified residence for city folk to protect themselves from wayward enemies. Everything about this place was just pure eye candy. Who knew there was such a glorious "CASTLE" in a small NW city called Port Clinton.

Location: (Norfolk Southern Sandusky Coal Dock, 201 Putnam Street, Sandusky, Oh 44870)
Date: Sunday, March 9th, 2025

Narrative: I was putting together a project for a friend of mine & figured I would fly more west than I typically fly. High above ground you get a more comprehensive view of just how beautiful this place is. Lake Erie is quite the beauty. The reflections were just splendid, and the blue hues were just gorgeous! As usual, I enjoyed my flight over head, but, it's a mild anxiety attack every time I fly over these Lake Erie waters. I landed safely and was on my way, but of course I had to acquire....spoils from my visual treasure hunt.

"Winter Nightz" {Episode 38} "Stormy Lake Front"
Location: (Lake Front Park, 310 State Street, Huron, Oh 44839)
Date: Sunday, March 16th, 2025

Narrative: It's surprising how chilly it is still in March. Feeling adventurous I decided to head west to check on another small city on the lake. After a 20 minute drive I pulled into Lake Front park. Somewhat populated, I decided to park In the lot nearest the lighthouse where there was a curve that takes you around to Main Street. I grabbed my equipment and made my way down the brick road heading toward several benches. To my left was an adorable play area where a small family was playing and to my right two geese were having a civil dispute over which direction to go next. I left the geese to resolve their differences in peace and continued until I reached the furthermost bench. Once there I took a deep breath and took in the whole scene. Still quite chilly out, I zipped up my jacket, reached into my camera bag & grabbed my camera. After a few snaps and review I was satisfied with the shots. From the naked eye it looked much more gray, but with some technology you can get a better view of what's really happening in the atmosphere. The light blue & tan hues really set the perfect contrast. It looks like a changing of the guard is on the horizon. Winter appears finally ready to release its grip on our great lake. And the incoming spring appears ready to bring storms to our lake front.

Title "Emerald Green Sandusky Scene"
Location: (Historic Downtown Sandusky, Sandusky, Oh)

{What I said then...}
"KLV Insight: Well I thought I might swing by to take a look at the Boy with the boot statue, but unfortunately the lights were already off by 9pm. But fortunately there were a couple of other glorious sights. I love how the city gets festive during the holidays. "

{What I think now...}
"I always enjoy how the downtown area is lit up. So if there is a holiday coming up I always check out the Merry-Go-Round Museum to see if there are any changes. I remember going out that night and being mesmerized by the color. As I have gotten older I have become quite enchanted with the green color, specifically emerald green. The museum shot was pretty good. The composition could have been centered a bit better with the front sign, and the highlights were bit blown out but overall not too bad. The Firelands campus photos are nice, but I wish there weren't so many power lines in the area. The Daly's photos was also quite nice, but wish I could have avoided some of the tree branches, but love the reflections in the windows. Overall though, not too bad."

"Winter Nightz" {Episode 37} "Luminous Lighthouse"
Location: (Huron Lighthouse, Huron Harbor West Pier, Huron, Oh 44839)
Date: Sunday, March 16th, 2025

Narrative: West pier is a wonderful treasure in Erie County that I have to visit nearly every trip. After spending sometime observing the gulls I decided I wanted to get an up close and personal shot of the lighthouse. "Maybe I should use the drone." I thought to myself. "Meh...it's wet, cold, windy....smh..too risky" I thought so I decided to grab the canon from my car, head out. Walking down the pier itself was an adventure as it was partially flooded and I had to walk closer to the pier's edge than I would have liked to. Proceeding forth, the drizzled rain now felt much more like heavy droplets. The winds are picking up while the squawks from the gulls are now in the far distance. "Not too much farther" I thought to myself. Moments later I arrived at a staircase which had 3 walkways going in different directions and at its summit was a large flat platform. I decided I needed to get closer. Narrowly traversing the flat boulders, I walked further occasionally stepping in puddles of water that pooled within the pockets of the uneven boulders. Every now and then I began looking behind me tracking my progress through the inclement weather. The now rapidly falling drops were causing my eyes to blink rapidly to keep my focus. My fingers & hands were now aching from the lake effect freezing temperatures. Moments later....."This looks good" I thought. Crouching down, I framed the shots from the view finder. "C'mon Kevin, just two shots is all you need" I said to myself as I held my lens with my left hand. My right hand is now throbbing, and slow to react. Slowly I press the capture button, and after a quick review I return the camera to my now drenched camera bag. "Alright, time to go!" I thought! Returning to the car was an adventure as now I was facing the chilly winds. The freezing rain was now battering my face & causing my cheeks to numb. My hands are now clinched in my pockets, and I am breathing from my mouth as I am speed walking back to the car. I have now stepped into a another pool of water, and I can feel the water from my soggy socks leak into my soles. Nearly back to my car I periodically look back at the lighthouse pondering what it would be like stranded on the lake with only a luminous lighthouse as your companion. Thankfully, I chose a more....dry hobby.
