Larry Bryson’s Art Gallery Reception @ CMCM!

Friday, August 9th @ 6:00 PM

Local artist Larry Bryson shares his story about his artwork:

“There are unique moments, images, feelings, sounds, aromas presenting themselves all of the time. My work celebrates this diversity, and I hope to cause a few more. The feeling of home depends on this. Beauty depends on this. Awareness of this sort of thing is an artistic sense we all have. What is new here? My art is to show these moments in a new light and share with fellow artistic companions.

I create images that suggest my home area in California. The shape of hills, plants and animals right here, fitted together, only happens here. That is home. I have an interesting, vibrant home with its shape and color. I also seek to display a different point of view. Some plein air painters tend to show very similar angles of view with x%

foreground, y% middle ground, and z% distance. I prefer to skew emphasis towards what that image offers that is not average.”

“Larry’s paintings are both masterful and intelligent. His artistic point of view challenges and delights me. Spending an afternoon at his studio over a cup of tea leaves me refreshed and inspired – I’d recommend the same to any lover of art and new ideas.”

- Linda Larsen

Young adults are significantly underrepresented in elections. The 2022 General Election highlighted this disparity, with only 38.96% of registered voters aged 18-24 casting their ballots, compared to 86.41% of voters aged 65-74. Increasing voter turnout among young adults is crucial for a representative democracy. Marin County Elections Student Ambassador Program was created to help encourage participation by our youngest voters. Carol Jacobsen's Gallery Reception "Women Of Color And Accomplishment"!

On Thursday, August 31, at 6;00 PM, there will be the closing reception for the 'Doing the Right Thing' art exhibit by Carol Jacobsen. At 7:00 PM, Carol will give an artist talk.

From Art Therapy to Social Justice Art.
'Doing the Right Thing' showcases 19 of the 100 portraits in the 'Women of Color and Accomplishment' series. This series was inspired by the murder of George Floyd and the subsequent protests. In processing her first response of anger and frustration at the racism still evident in this country, Carol chose to focus her energy on making a visual reminder of the power of individuals to make a difference.

She chose portraiture to honor the extraordinary African American women who have overcome obstacles of race and gender to achieve their dreams. Most of these women have been ignored by history books. These portraits were made to help people see beyond skin color to instead see the character of the person.

Come and get your weekly fix with, MAYBEE & FREEDOM from Marin TV's eXpress Studio!

Here is their message to all of our community members:

"Our podcast will take you on a journey through our lived experiences and what got us here. You will laugh with us and cry with us. We believe in our mission to create change and inspire you. While some of the topics may be uncomfortable, talking about things outside of our comfort zones encourages growth.

The podcast showcases special guests, such as marginalized young people from community, to talk about issues they are facing such as mental health, drug addiction, racism, social inequality, and poverty. Oh wait did we forget music? Of course we will be talking about music and the healing power of music. Be prepared to laugh a lot and you just might cry too! We are going to broaden your perspective, open your heart, and encourage you to be the change you want to see in the world.

Our Soul Purpose is to inspire Growth and Change in our communities & we know first hand in order to do that we had to start with ourselves. We are excited and extremely grateful to be on this journey and even more excited for you all to listen and watch it evolve. If there is any way you would like to get involved in our movement please feel free to reach out!
