Middle Ridge rehearsal and recording studio is a log cabin located off of Middle Ridge Trail on the V6 Ranch in Parkfield, California (a three and a half hour drive from LA or San Francisco).

Great to have our cousin up for a studio visit this weekend. We’re still mesmerized over this beautiful guitar he brought along, built in Los Angeles in the 1870s.

I recently added two AKG C414 B XLS to the Middle Ridge Mic Locker. The 414 has been a legendary studio mic since 1971. The most legendary of all the models being the EB (Extended Bass) model with the CK12 brass capsule.

The reason I love this microphone so much is because it’s multi pattern and can deal with high SPL sources really nicely. It’s got a slightly hyped high end with bumps at 6.5khz and 12khz which makes it great for getting darker sources to cut through a mix.

In September Shane came up to Middle Ridge and recorded some additional tracks for the ten year anniversary of his album The Wisp Sings that included the viral title track “The Wisp Sings” (over 1 billion plays on TikTok).

Had a great session with yesterday. It was one to remember with an earthquake interrupting us during the middle of the day. It was a magnitude of 4.3 with the epicenter about 2 miles away.

Old new rack and old new compressor added to the setup. This compressor is a bit of a mystery. My guess is it was a DIY copy of and LA3A that wasn’t finished perfectly. It’s all solid state and has great internals. The thing sounds incredible, but doesn’t necessarily function as it should, but I find that kind of charming. Hoping to add more units to the beautiful vintage rack over time. We also have some new vintage mics that we haven’t posted about yet so stay tuned!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! We are finally catching our breath after the magical day we spent with you all celebrating the launch of Middle Ridge Studio. Our hearts are so warmed by the support, encouragement, and good ole wholesome fun last week.

Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for adventuring to the studio and bringing your families along.
Thank you to the SLO County Stumblers, Phillip Rogers, and Miss Leo Music for the wonderful music. We can’t wait to have you all back to record in the studio!

We are ready for ya folks! We can’t wait to have you all here for our Launch Party tomorrow (Saturday).

A few very important details:
1. Vineyard Canyon Road is currently the ONLY passable road to Parkfield. Waze has been taking people on some muddy adventures so we recommend using Google or Apple Maps.

2. We will meet at the V6 Ranch Headquarters at 5pm SHARP. We ask that you arrive on time or let’s us know if you’ll be late so we can make sure everyone makes to the studio. Route to:

We’re very excited to announce the rescheduled launch party with an amazing new lineup of entertainment. .style and will be performing. This is a free concert and the studio will be open for all to see.

The studio is in a remote location so we ask that all attending arrive at the V6 Ranch HQ at 5PM.

The ranch is looking beautiful, and all the wildflowers are popping!! Can’t wait to party with you all!

Ok Mother Nature. You win.

We’re very very sad to say that we’ll be postponing our Launch Party due to the storm headed our way. We’ll have a party when California gets back to its usual sunny skies, but as of now it’s unsafe to travel. It’s a shame because we won’t be able to have the same amazing line up, but we’re going to plan something very special very soon.

This week we found one of the oldest and largest Junipers on the V6 Ranch, hidden just a five minute walk from the studio. This beauty is around 30 feet tall and three foot wide. Considering a five foot tall bush can be 50 years old, it’s likely this tree has stood here for several hundred years.

It’s covered in scars from limbs that were cut off over the years, likely used by homesteaders for fence posts in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It stood here when the Tachi tribe called this land home. It warms our hearts to see it still standing strong and healthy.

A tree this special needs a name. If you have a suggestion, drop in in the comments.
