All people regardless of vaccination status are required to wear the masks in high-risk areas such as hospitals, nursing homes, and public transits.

If you have any questions about the mask mandates please contact your local public health department. Local governments can impose their own mask mandates beyond the state’s announcements.

5/17/21 NEWS FLASH | California Stays With June 15 to End Mask Mandate
[VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Ian Sanborn, a white male, is wearing a beret and blue v-neck shirt. Behind him is a black background with blue ambient light.]
[START MESSAGE]
Today is May 17, 2021.
California health officials on Monday said the state won't follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's relaxed masked guidance but will stick to the June 15 target date set by Gov. Gavin Newsom.
California Public Health officials want to emphasize that regardless of vaccination status, masks must be worn in indoor settings, including on public transportation, and in our schools in California. The reason for June 15th is to allow more time for more Californians to get fully vaccinated. People who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 do not need to wear a mask outdoors unless they are attending crowded gatherings.
Many people are confused because of CDC’s recommendations that people who are fully vaccinated don’t have to wear masks in certain locations. Businesses such as Costco, Target, Trader Joe’s, Walmart have dropped masks but they must follow California’s state guidelines until after June 15th. We will keep you updated June 15th. Continue to mask up.

Vaccine Supersite Interview | Byung Lim
Interview with Byung Lim
[BEGIN TRANSCRIPT]
(The interviewer starts with an introduction)
Ian: Hi. I would like to introduce Byung Lim. He will be talking about his experience related to vaccination recently. Welcome, how are you?
Byung: Great! Going well!
Ian: Great! The first question is what was your experience with the vaccine from the beginning to the end?
Byung: My situation was very unique. Usually, I see friends, teachers, or partners in individuals when they visit. I went with my entire family in one car. I never saw that similar experience being mentioned by others.
My family and I were discussing how to arrange the visit. When my dad got approved to get the vaccines, we joined along. We all were unsure which time to choose, 3:30p, 3:45p, or 4:00p. We went ahead and decided to go together at 4:00pm to see if we would be approved to go together at the same time. On the same day we got approved, all of us. I started to look up on the super site website for information on attending as a family but there was no bit of instruction. We went ahead and carpooled then headed out to the coliseum in Oakland. Getting there was very easy, smooth. We showed our IDs. We were supposed to use QR code but we never got it, used our IDs instead to match whatever it is in the system. Everything matched on the iPAD and we were then instructed to drive forward.
At first they offered us an ASL interpreter but then my dad said he was willing to interpret. We all agreed to let dad interpret. As we drove down the lane, following the orange cones that guided us toward several armies, they dressed like one, or maybe they were from FEMA. They ordered us to stop the car then instructed us to go to the booths labeled with numbers. When we got to one of them, we started discussing where and how to park the car because we all planned to get the vaccines in our left arms. My mother was sitting in the passenger seat. I was sitting in the backseat. We all were figuring out how to do t

Stanley Matsomuto: As you approach the exit for the supersite, make sure you stay on the right side of the highway once you notice the long line of cars. Carefulyl merge as there are other drivers trying to enter the highway as well. If you try to cut ahead, beware of the long line and you’ll be blocking the traffic.
Stanley: As you can see, the driver ends up blocking the traffic and the other drivers behind are frustrated. Make sure you merge into the exit lane early in the back as possible. I’m taking the Zhone Way / 66th Ave exit. You can see the exit sign.
Stanley: As you enter the site, the lanes will merge into one lane. It’s pretty effective!
Stanley: I’ve informed them I’m deaf. They just placed a card on my windshield saying I need American Sign Language access.
[SCENE: ASL Card on windshield]
[SCENE: Instruction being given through ASL interpreter and taking the vaccine]
Stanley: After taking your vaccine, you’ll be directed to the observation area for 15 minutes to make sure you don’t show any signs of side effects. If you do, turn on your hazard lights or beep your horn and the medical staff will come to you. They placed a note with the time of the vaccine so they can track you for 15 minutes. I’ve got my vaccine card, yay! Good luck to all of you!
