German-born bassist/composer Kai Eckhardt moved to the United States to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he studied under Gary Burton and was introduced to John McLaughlin. In 1988, he joined McLaughlinâs Trio, and is credited with making history by pushing the envelope of fusing modern jazz with South Indian classical music. Jon Dryden is a pianist/keyboardist/composer and lecturer in Jazz Studies at SJSU, where he earned his Masters in Jazz Studies in 2016. He has composed and orchestrated hundreds of pieces, and is active as a performer throughout Northern California, New York, and Europe.
