Our Story

Bay Area News Group is a news media company in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Our original flagship newspaper, The Mercury News, began as a broadsheet pulled from a hand press in 1851. From there it grew into a Pulitzer Prize-winning daily, in time combining resources with other leading papers to become the largest news publisher in the Bay Area. Today we have an extensive newsroom staff covering this vibrant market, bolstered by top national and international news services. In April of 2016 Bay Area News Group consolidated its major dailies into two regional powerhouses: The Mercury News serving Silicon Valley and the Peninsula; and the East Bay Times serving Oakland, Walnut Creek, Pleasanton and the rest of the East Bay. Readers on each side of the bay get the news, information and entertainment that shapes and impacts their own lives. Further neighborhood coverage is provided by additional Bay Area News Group publications, including the Marin Independent Journal and dozens of community weeklies.

Journalism Bay Area News Group journalists — from reporters to photographers to editors and digital staffers — are dedicated to providing accurate and informative news and feature reporting that empowers readers. As longtime local news organizations, The Mercury News, East Bay Times and Marin Independent Journal staffs shift and evolve as the Bay Area and Silicon Valley continue to influence the nation. Our team, including all of our weekly newspapers, aims to be a community source that draws in readers with its commitment to excellence and local news as well as big-picture projects that explore difficult issues. Advertising We help business reach their advertising objectives through our unique mix of digital, mobile and print offerings. Situated in the heart of Silicon Valley, we are constantly evolving our digital advertising offerings and we are proud to have launched Convertly, our latest innovative SaaS (Software as a Service) platform that has helped to further differentiate our value proposition in the marketplace.

Convertly Convertly is a digital marketing platform that maximizes the performance of your digital marketing campaigns and ensures you generate the most from your investment. Convertly’s story is unique. The platform was first conceptualised because we realised how limited we were in controlling the customer journey after an individual is exposed to a marketing campaign and in optimising the entire campaign, including a client’s Web site. Our clients are each different in terms of their business vertical, knowledge of digital marketing, and proficiency with maintaining the digital health of the Web site. Two key issues that we ran into frequently included:

  • Not being able to claim attribution from the campaigns, either because tracking was set up incorrectly or was not there at all.
  • Nearby media companies
