WOMAN LIFE FREEDOM

Join us for an evening about what's happening in Iran.

As unprecedented protests and violent crackdowns enter their 10th week across Iran, the Media has continued not to prioritize it. Instead, the youth in Iran (despite internet shutdowns) continue to syndicate information amplified by Iranians in the diaspora through social media to make sure the world doesn't look away at this watershed moment not just for Iran, but for feminism and human rights at large.

Join us for a discussion moderated by Poet & Educator Dr. Persis Karim with Iranian community leaders as they discuss the critical information about the situation in Iran, the youth-led activism around this movement, and what a future Iran could look like.

Syra McCarthy is a half Filipino, half New Zealander first-generation American filmmaker and actor. Moving with grace between different styles of film —from cinematic surrealism to smart quirky comedy—McCarthy approaches filmmaking with a stylistic flair that subverts expectations.
Directing for brands like Angi, Olly, Scotch-Brite, Ford’s Gin, Square and Google, her work was recently featured in the New York Times.

David Camarena is an Los Angeles-based, Mexican-American director and photographer. His unique perspective is informed by years of documentation, candid moments, and a view into the landscape of Latinidad both in California and Mexico. David’s experience working in live-action, still photography, animation, and music videos have led to a truly distinct style as a filmmaker.
