Mike Carnahan and I agreed that having knocking sounds throughout songs is fantastic, adding a lot! Also other cassette machine rumblings and hissy fits. (K)NOT! Please look beyond the Lo-Fi to the heart of the song - my only hope. I can, and Mike can! We had a blast today getting this album together. Strange music can be like that. Won't you join us for a largely extemporaneous ride, of some cm laude adventure? —LM 15apr24

Enjoy this new video from Karaj Lost-coast which chronicles his journey last year from California to Maine. We spruced up his home recordings with some additional layers in the studio to create this final version.

The Heaven Insects album is very good - fun, tuneful and toe-tappy. The versions of Apron Strings and Southeast Asian American Blues may just top the Ophelias versions, they're that good. Plus the Barrett and all the other stuff; Melodious Lay. For ONE BUCK at Bandcamp! Ride the Comments to paydirt NOW!

Check the description in this forwarded post and take a listen to this collection of demos and live recordings that we polished. These tracks helped pave the way to The Ophelias.
It’s been a lot of fun working with Leslie Medford on these!

Hi friends! Well, here are fourteen more recordings from my past. True, all recordings are from that dimension, so, specifically, 1982-84 spawned these. It was an active and fruitful period for me, antecedent to the formation of The Ophelias in October 1984. This makes four pre-Oafs Bandcamp albums - and that will be all for now - which lead directly into "Green Girl" and the other material available at The Ophelias Bandcamp page. Basically, "The Voyage of the Dark-Eyed Sailor" & "BrowBeat" are the more "serious" sets in that they are mostly my own songs, home recordings I made on a TEAC 4-track reel-to-reel; whereas, "Quaint" and this new one, "Blown Youth", are live performances recorded on boomboxes and such and include a lot of covers (my live sets of that period being dominated by the music of others.) Also included are some songs being conceived onto tape. These are particularly rough and beg your best indulgence! (Repeated listens will illuminate their strengths, I'm positive.) The songs by my musical heroes give a glimpse of where I'm from and the Medford songs point to where I was going. Everything's a "demo" - on all four of these albums - everything dreams of a better version down the turnpike. Ah, but that proved to be a circle, a big O, a merry failure. Only a few ever got re-addressed whatsoever. Still, I have no qualms about sharing with you these artifacts from my BLOWN YOUTH.

Take a listen to Leslie Medford’s latest release of legacy recordings that we’ve been breathing new life into.

Happy Solsticetime, everyone! Here follows the blurb attached to my new Bandcamp album, "Quaint". (Link in Comments) I hope you'll give it a spin...

"It’s me! with 31 minutes of fumbling, altogether unsatisfactory performance! But one has to start somewhere; it’ll be over before you know it, and I *do* think each one of these “scores a charm point or two” as we liked to say in the days of quaint. I wouldn’t share them otherwise.
Barely two years into the adventure of singing-whilst-playing-guitar, I was writing stuff, learning songs off records, beginning to play in public, and sometimes being recorded doing these things...well, such recordings that survive are completely haphazard and practically random. Using a cassette dictaphone of my father’s I would sometimes record myself playing something I learned that day, before I could really play it…then never record it when I *could* play it passably well! And these wonderful "covers" I attempted in public were often tantalizingly just beyond my grasp, with nerves further bamboozling my efforts. But I was a nervy novice, and I kept pushing on. I hope many who saw me perform in 1982 would remember me as being better than this, (haha!) and will project onto *this* half hour good vibes still reverberating from my best intentions, my better performances, and my joy in playing for you. —LM "
