By converting most of his $21 Million base salary to signing bonus, the Niners lowered that hit to $12.2 M for 2024 — over $16 million in savings.

Albert Breer details what really happened in the BA and sg49ers negotiations drama:

“49erdls reached 26 million a year in May, but did not move out of that spot before camp began in July. Then, when the camp starts, and Aiyuk decides to hang on, the parties have to start over. On August 12, the 49ers made 2 proposals — one for 120 M over 4 years, and another for 87 million over three years. Brandon Aiyuk rejects the 2, and they get off the table. Then, last week, when the two sides reopened talks, the Niners' offer returned to the table, and Aiyuk took a four-year, $120 M deal.

Had the New England Patriots made a deal with the Niners for Aiyuk, and they tried, the package would have been expected for a 2025 second-round pick, a 2026 fourth-rounder, and a player—the Niners had Kendrick Bourne, who played for San Francisco, still returning from a torn ACL. New England submitted two contract proposals in front of Aiyuk. One averaged 30 million over three years, and the other exceeded 32 million a year for four years.

The Cleveland Browns also interfered. The 49ers asked for second- and fifth-round picks and Amari Cooper for Brandon Aiyuk. That, logistically, would be hard to do for Cleveland—the Browns had given Cooper an 18.79 million signing bonus as part of his restructuring/ascension.
Nonetheless, I hear Cleveland would be willing to do a three-year contract rather than a four-year extension with BA at really good numbers.
The Pittrsbrugh Steelers came closest to acquiring Brandon Aiyuk.
They refuse to release current players, but are willing to part with second- and third-round picks. What's interesting is the money isn't as good as the Steelers, they offered Aiyuk 27.7 million APY. The 49ers called about a dozen teams to see if they could reverse the third-rounder elsewhere to get a veteran receiver to replace Brandon in the lineup.

And it underscores the key element—Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch will never undermine the 2024 49ers while trying to find a resolution. Aiyuk's final numbers represent a healthy rise in which negotiations took place in the spring, but not in the same environment as Jefferson and Lamb's agreement.
Again, Aiyuk never wanted to leave San Francisco. He knows how hard it is to win a Super Bowl. He has attended the NFC title game three times in four years. The 49ers offer is competitive, even though California is taxing heavily. He was also a West Coast kid who grew up in the state, and went to college in Arizona. Ultimately, the only reason he considered Pittsburgh, and not Cleveland or New England, was because of the relationship he built with Steelers coach Mike Tomlin over Zoom's call before the 2020 draft.

But last Thursday, when he was faced with another opportunity to force out, one of several he's had over the past few weeks, and San Francisco's offer was back on the table? Aiyuk's actions showed the truth, that is, deep down, he never wanted to leave, especially with a deal in front of him that had no feathers, and arranged for him to get every penny he owed.

Brandon Aiyuk's news is excellent. But the Sf49ers need Trent Williams on this team to give me real confidence in the season.
The 49ers have 2 tackles on the team: Jaylon Moore and Colton McKivitz. That's not going to solve it. Since no tackle was designed during the last 2 drafts, they have painted themselves into a corner. They NEED a Hall of Fame LT back.
