Mortal Kombat 2

First Trailer (2025) Karl Urban | WarnerBros Mortal Kombat 2 will finally introduce Johnny Cage to the rebooted movie franchise, but the fan-favorite's debut may not work quite as well as it could have done due to the choices made surrounding the film series' new protagonist. 2021's Mortal Kombat movie received largely lukewarm reviews, partially due to some of the creative decisions as the video games were adapted again. The movie established fresh pieces of canon, such as Mortal Kombat's Arcana powers, which weren't present in the source material. With a sequel on the horizon, Mortal Kombat's future may be negatively impacted by its past.

Mortal Kombat's Cole Young was an original character developed especially for the 2021 movie. Cole's golden armor and Arcana powers are loosely based on established lore, but they did take some creative liberties. The decision to have a new character lead the Mortal Kombat reboot has been criticized, with many believing a pre-existing figure from the Mortal Kombat universe would have been a better option. Thankfully, the Mortal Kombat 2 cast brings Karl Urban into the fold to embody the legendary Johnny Cage. What remains to be seen is whether it's too little too late.

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus -the demigod son of Zeus-is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius. Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity's lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades and Poseidon. The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld. Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus' godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramírez), switch loyalty and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans' strength grows stronger as Zeus' remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth. Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon's demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

Set during the Klondike Gold Rush, it follows the journey of Buck, a large, good-natured dog, as he is uprooted from his comfortable California home and sold into the harsh life of a sled dog in the Yukon wilderness.

The spoiler centers on Buck's evolution from a pampered pet to a leader of a sled team. Throughout his journey, Buck is repeatedly faced with cruelty and hardship. However, he also experiences kindness, most notably from John Thornton (Harrison Ford), a man who has lost everything and finds solace in Buck's company.

The Great Wall (2016) is an action-packed fantasy film directed by Zhang Yimou, featuring a star-studded cast including Matt Damon, Jing Tian, and Andy Lau. Set during ancient China's Song Dynasty, the story follows William (Matt Damon) and Tovar (Pedro Pascal), European mercenaries searching for gunpowder, who are taken prisoner by a secretive Chinese military force known as the Nameless Order.

The Nameless Order is stationed at the Great Wall, which is not just a defensive structure, but a stronghold built to defend against a monstrous species called the Taotie. These vicious, fast-breeding creatures attack every sixty years, threatening to wipe out humanity. As the Taotie launch an all-out assault on the Wall, William and Tovar must decide whether to fight alongside the Nameless Order or flee for their lives.

In the final battle, William chooses to stay and fight, discovering bravery, loyalty, and honor. Commander Lin (Jing Tian) and Strategist Wang (Andy Lau) lead the effort to stop the Taotie before they breach the Wall and overrun the capital.

The climactic moment involves a risky plan to destroy the Taotie Queen, the heart of the swarm. Using black powder explosives, William and Lin manage to kill the Queen, halting the invasion. The film ends with a sense of sacrifice and triumph as the survivors reflect on their hard-fought victory.
