Embark on a sonic odyssey with Nervous Operator’s latest album, “Psychic Diffraction,” an audacious nine-track collection where the pulse of syncopated rhythms and psychedelic synthcraft meet the ethereal realms of ambient melodies and hypnagogic dreamscapes.

Forging a path that diverges from the digitally-centered composition of his last album, “Chronostasis” released on Dreamtone in 2021, Nervous Operator, who is based in Vancouver, embraces the raw energy and imperfections of live performance. “Psychic Diffraction” has its roots in two dynamic live PA sets, which served as the creative essence for the album. The original performances were recorded, only to be reworked through a studio process that refined and enhanced the compositions without sacrificing the spontaneous spirit of the live experience. Utilizing an impressive array of hardware, including an Octatrack, Rytm (gratitude to Josh Rose aka Derivatives for lending the device), Syntakt, and the Mopho, Nervous Operator ensures each track delivers a palpable and vibrant auditory experience that is tinged with tactile warmth.

“Psychic Diffraction” is also a homage to the influence Chicago, where Nervous Operator previously lived, had on the artist’s creative process. “Much of my inspiration came from my time in Chicago and the musicians and DJs I met through various shows and parties. I greatly appreciated the freedom of exploration and melding of genres”. As a result, the album boasts an eclectic blend of industrial, electro, breakbeat, and techno. “I always aim to create small ‘worlds’ for the listener to explore sonically and to layer textures in such a way that allows the listener to discover new elements on repeated plays,” Nervous Operator reflects. “Psychic Diffraction” indeed offers a multilayered auditory odyssey that becomes richer with each listen.

Hello everyone,

I am beyond thrilled to announce that my latest album entitled “Lavender Palace”, coming out via the legendary West Coast label 100% SILK, is official up for pre order! Digital and limited edition cassette. It’s a collection of tracks that I’ve written over these past few years, during these very strange times we find ourselves in. There’s a lot of really personal cuts in there and the tempos and emotions range from moody and low-slung to chilled out DnB (I thiinkk). It’s the first release like this I’ve done in many years and took a huge effort, but I’m so proud of how it turned out. So give it a listen and if you like it pre order! Full album drops late October. A massive shout out to Britt B for all of his help and guidance on this project. Pleasure working with him and the Silk team as always. Read more:

*Lavender Palace* is a portrait of a process more than a place – the result of a creative headspace San Francisco producer (and Silva Electronics boss) Michael Claus describes as “dropping out of the world and entering a flow state.” That heightened sense of spatial focus, dilated and dialed in, colors the collection in subtle shades of dream house, dub techno, and liquid downtempo. Recorded before and during the strangest days of peak lockdown, Claus found himself drawn to sci-fi notions of fantastical cities and mythic landscapes, hazy realms in the horizon of the mind’s eye. Further inspired by a new and improved studio arrangement in the city, the sessions unspooled in long, low slung voyages of texture and pulse, restlessness and reverie, “yearning for a better tomorrow.” It’s music of empty streets and guarded hope, percolating at the precipice of futures too real to recognize.

But the thrill of The Damage Has Been Done lies in its risk-taking and its sheer I-don't-give-a-f**k-ness. Shanahan has long been one of my favorite American techno producers, in part because of the lightness and atmospheric style of his music. It's an unexpected pleasure to hear him take his frustrations out on his gear, with all the best parts of his work still intact, just under a layer of dirt."
