Saw a viral video of an underage Filipino girl selling food to make a living for her family. The narrator doing the voiceover who took the video then says that children should aspire to be like her instead of being on their phone.

I agree that children shouldn’t be raised on phones and should learn the concept of working hard instead of everything being handed to them. I also agree that the girl in the video is super hardworking.

But to use the word “inspiring” to describe child labor is quite disgusting. We don’t know her entire situation, we can’t solely blame the parents. The system is so broken that sometimes they do have to resort to this.

But we need to stop glorifying and normalizing children working at an early age not only in the Philippines but anywhere around the world.

Instead, we need to ask why are they working? Why is this normal? Why is the system like this? Why is no one in power putting an effort to stop this? Why aren’t they in school?

Children should be children. They shouldn’t have to learn how grow up at an age where they don’t even know the concept of being an adult. They need to learn and develop at their own pace. It shouldn’t forced onto them.

We should be looking at our government and the people in power on why this is even allowed or normalized.

We’re a family but we never claimed to be wholesome. All of us are all adults making content. We are not specifically for children and never advertised to be. The main people that watch us are 18-40 year olds. Our tagline is literally EEDJIOTS.

The internet is for everyone. So it’s up to you as the parent/guardian to monitor what your children consume online. That’s called PARENTING.

Content creators, influencers, celebrities and random people on the internet are NOT your babysitters.

Don’t police what others create online because it doesn’t fit your lifestyle. This is a free app and free content. We do not charge you. You are free to go.

Even Mama’s grandkids who make appearances once and while on our “wholesome” videos don’t watch most of our content. If they do watch, they know what’s appropriate or not because we’ve talked to them about it.

I think as a society we need to have some accountability and stop blaming other people for everything. Yes public personas should have some responsibility, but not all responsibility.

It’s up to you to have conversations with your children about serious topics and what’s right and wrong at their age like how our parents had with us.

There are multiple button to use for content you don’t like “unsubscribe” “block” “unfollow” you don’t have to watch it. There’s also parental locks now and age limits to create accounts. Please do your research if you care so much about what your kids consume.

So happy to be supporting a local Filipino brand in the Philippines, Lokal Bayong, LB, get it? 🤭

If you don’t know, a bayong bag is a traditional Filipino bag woven from dried leaves or synthetic materials. Us Filipinos usually use it as tote bags for our groceries.

It’s beautiful to see this beautiful traditional work turned into something mordern and lux at an affordable price. Keeping it alive for the new generation of Filipinos.

Shout out to LJ, who actually sent these bags the night before our flight via Lalamove to our hotel in Manila. We didn’t need to post this, but we did because of how beautiful they were. Such a nice souvenir for Christmas. Thank you.

EEDJIOT serious talk for today.

Foreigner: “Philippines is so cheap, this food only $1 and I bought this big house for a very cheap price. This is the dream place to move to.”

While I understand this sentiment since my family lives in the states and earn dollars, I also can’t help but huminga ng malalim at mag shake ng ulo.

It glorifies and glazes over the poverty and how hard life is in the Philippines.

The conversion of dollars and many western money against Philippine Peso is big. But to the millions of Filipinos the cost of living against minimum wage, salary and overall earnings is really bad.

100 Pesos to an average Filipino person for a single meal is very expensive. Many can’t afford a decent home. Many children can’t even go to school since they have to help make ends meet for their parents. There’s no middle class because the corruption is rampant, there’s only the rich and the rest at the bottom.

Though the states also has its struggles and has long ways to go with certain issues, some take basic necessities like free public schools or easy access to health care for granted. You can’t even leave most hospitals if you don’t pay the bill in the Philippines.

Not everything has to be deep, pero if you’re someone moving to the Philippines as a foreigner, or a Fil-Am visiting their homeland, you should at least be aware.

Your joy of cheap prices is someone else’s struggle for a decent life.

Saw a high profile celebrity posting TikTok/Reels videos of other average Filipinos without credit, no watermark or tags…as in reupload talaga. Wala kahit ano credit to the original.

It’s not our own content being reposted, pero parang not fair naman yon to others who aren’t popular creators. Especially since it has so many views and payout. Just because sikat doesn’t mean ok yon.

As someone who started and continue to create content with just a phone with my Mom and sisters without a crew, assistants, or editors, I feel for those who get their content stolen with no resources.

While we understand internet is internet and we all reuse content, if you have a big platform, let’s use it to uplift and credit other Filipinos as well.
