08/26/23 5:30 pm Cal-Am reports it has lifted a boil water advisory for affected areas in South County as of now - Saturday, August 26 at 5:30 pm. This includes Coronado residents south of Fiddler's Cove.

After extensive water testing, Cal-Am and the State Water Resources Control Board's Division of Drinking Water determined the water is now safe to drink.

Residents are advised to "flush" their water following the lifting of the boil order in order to clear plumbing of potentially contaminated water. Flushing your household and building water lines includes interior and exterior faucets; showers; water and ice dispensers; water treatment units, etc. Please check the complete guidance here: https://www.coronado.ca.us/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=428

A Boil Water Advisory Issued For Imperial Beach Areas and Coronado Areas.

The State Water Resources Control Board Division of Drinking Water is issuing a Boil Water Advisory for the Silver Strand area of Coronado and Imperial Beach. Affected customers will be contacted directly by Cal American Water Company with additional information.

The drinking water system has tested present for E.Coli bacteria. The presence of E.Coli bacteria indicates that the water may be contaminated with human or animal waste. Health effects can include diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches or other symptoms. E.Coli may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, some elderly and people with severely compromised immune systems.

• The water is not safe to drink.

• Boil all water for 3 minutes.

• Let the water cool before you use it.

• Use of bottled water encouraged for drinking, brushing teeth and food preparation until further notice.

• Boiling water kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.

The Boil Water Order was issued to ensure all water used is free from bacterial contamination. The Boil Water Order will remain in effect until laboratory results confirm the absence of bacteria in the water supply.

This story was updated at 3:15 pm on Thursday, Aug. 24 after clarification on the affected areas.
