Two of Arizona’s Catholic bishops joined last week with a group of other Christian leaders in the state to express their “grave concern” over “the threat of mistreatment of undocumented persons who are our neighbors and contribute to our communities.”

“While we recognize the lawful right of nations to monitor and control their borders, we also recognize that in many ways our current U.S. immigration laws do not uphold individuals’ rights to a dignified life, family unity, and safety,” wrote a group of 10 Arizona Christian leaders in a Dec. 28 AZ Central column.

My good Irish friend Donncha was convinced that if every Catholic in San Francisco put a nativity scene in their front window this December, the City would change. The problem with our cities, he rightly observed, is that we rush back and forth from work to play, from expensive restaurants to expensive entertainment, and we don’t stop to look at Jesus. We have forgotten the fundamental truth of human existence: that God became human so that humans could become like God. We have forgotten the real meaning of Christmas, even though everyone longs for the spirit of Christmas.

….According to the always leftist, frequently hysterical, reporting of the National Catholic Reporter:

Trump’s choice of Brian Burch to represent him here in Rome is certain to raise eyebrows inside the Vatican, as he has long expressed criticism of the Francis papacy.

The NCR goes on to list some of those instances. Burch criticized the Vatican document allowing the blessing of same-sex couples. Burch took issue with Pope Francis punishing Cardinal Burke, who is perhaps the single most careful and respectful of all the Holy Father’s public critics.

Noose tightens on nuns in Nicaragua
'It doesn’t matter if they’re foreign or nationals, they must leave'

Officials from the Ortega regime had a meeting two months ago with the superiors of religious congregations in the country, in which they were told that residency permits would not be renewed for foreign priests and sisters once they expired, local sources told The Pillar.

“They also said that those who insisted on renewing their permits would be charged more than usual for the process and still be denied, so that they should not even bother,” a source close to the bishops’ conference told The Pillar.

In a video clip that has gone viral on X (formerly Twitter), President-elect Donald Trump vowed to make ending the targeting of parents who express dissenting views at school board meetings a priority of his incoming second administration.

“They called us domestic terrorists, President Trump, for speaking out at school board meetings defending our children,” Moms for Liberty co-foundress Tiffany Justice told the president-elect in the video. She was referring to the outgoing Biden-Harris administration.

Trump replied: “Well, we’ll fix that on the first day, I promise you.”

Facing what he calls the “chilling and frightening reality” of President-elect Donald Trump’s plan for mass deportations of undocumented immigrants in the United States, Cardinal Roger Mahony is encouraging America’s Catholic bishops to raise their voices.

“The pending ominous initiative to round up and deport some eleven million undocumented immigrants across the country is a chilling and frightening reality,” Mahony, the archbishop emeritus of Los Angeles, told Crux, noting the impact deportation policies will have on mixed families in the United States – those where some family members are citizens and others undocumented.

Inderjot: Based on religion, it’s controversial because all these holy books are tailored to a specific time period. You’re not supposed to update them because it’s the holy scripture and you’re not supposed to touch it.

Seven years ago my spiritual director suggested I read a chapter of the Bible every morning, and I’ve been doing that. Six months ago, however, I finished the Bible (for the third time!) and began reading other things in the morning. I read a spiritual biography of St. John of the Cross, and a commentary on St. John’s Gospel — all good spiritual reading, but there is nothing to compare with the Good Book itself. So last week I opened the large Bible that I keep open on my mantlepiece.

We did not make ourselves, and we do not have to save ourselves. Seven years ago my spiritual director suggested I read a chapter of the Bible every morning, and I’ve been doing that. Six months ago, however, I finished the Bible (for

San Diego State officials tried to quell pro-women’s protests taking place at the college’s volleyball game against San José State University, a team that has made national headlines for including a transgender player on its roster.

Outkick reports that the November 9 game – which San José State lost – drew around 300 spectators, which is three times the typical crowd size. The crowd included pro-women’s sports protestors, who held a “Save Women’s Sports” banner and chanted “No men in women’s sports” during the game, in protest of San José State’s transgender player, Blaire Fleming.
