Ursa Polaris Records is a tribute to the independent spirit of the polar bear, keeper of the north star. It emerged from our desire to show the world what we see in the unknown music that we love. We connect musicians with engineers and each other, and provide the space and equipment to create. W
e aim to be part of a music industry that gives power to the musicians and consumers, not a small set of record label middlemen and executives. We offer a studio space and music co-operative, at competitive rates of $16 an hour. We have a 600-square foot studio, with internal sound isolation, and no noise curfew. In addition, we've got an entire 16-track Focusrite setup for recording engineers, or just a nice sounding room for musicians. In addition we make screen printed wooden album artwork for independent musicians, bands, and labels. Our albums are designed on a project-to-project basis, and we'll work with you to get exactly what you're looking for. It's difficult to completely recreate the ambience of listening to an artist live with only a set of speakers. Because of this, lots of records are defined not only by the music, but by a complimentary album cover that amplifies the experience of listening to the album. Velvet Underground & Nico, Physical Graffiti, Dark Side of the Moon, Sticky Fingers, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and many more, have the meaning of the music amplified by the complimentary themes of the album cover. It's not quite a live show, but it's getting there. Solidifying this visual and tactile connection is especially important in the modern digital age, where we have more and more sounds and sights, and fewer things to hold in our hands and cherish. We think it's a natural part of the human design to want to create something beautiful and personal before the body turns to mush. This is what the culture at Ursa Polaris thrives on.
