Despite some public outcry, including that of Gustave Eiffel’s great-great grandson, Paris’ Mayor Anne Hidalgo has said that the Olympic Rings placed on the Eiffel Tower for this year’s Olympics will remain on the tower indefinitely. With the blessing and financial support of the International Olympic Committee, the existing 95-foot-wide, 45-foot-tall, 33-ton rings will be replaced with a lighter version.

Is it art?
Is it advertising?
Is it a message of peace?

Will the Eiffel Tower Olympic Rings become permanent? Mayor Anne Hidalgo says yes, but Gustave Eiffel's descendants disapprove of the plan.

In honor of Black History Month, we at Avenir are educating ourselves about significant Black community members throughout in San Diego's history all February long. Even though California was admitted as a free state, its laws often explicitly discriminated against Black people. “Typeface design plays a fundamental role in visual communication: it is crucial to the textual representation of languages and to provide voices for diverse communities.

Yet design histories have largely overlooked the activities of those who contributed to the production of typefaces throughout the industrial era. It is frequently assumed that typefaces are the work of a single designer whereas, as most industrial objects, they result from a series of processes involving multiple skills often carried out by numerous people.

Type-manufacturers employed women as part of departments that were variously known as ‘drawing studios’, ‘type drawing offices’, or ‘departments of typographic development’. These women worked daily on developing and producing typefaces that were, eventually, almost always attributed to male designers. They merit attention as key contributors to the design process of many renowned typefaces that emerged throughout the twentieth century.”

We are looking to grow our team by adding an Account Coordinator. We are a small but mighty team of creative and strategic thinkers and doers with a passion for delivering top-quality branding, technology, and marketing support to our growing list of customers.

Our new Account Coordinator will help support the owner and the team as we grow in capacity and talent. We value independence, creativity, and dedication, taking ownership over assigned projects and making sure client and project objectives are achieved.

Our ideal candidate will have experience supporting a busy business owner and have some experience and/or deep understanding of digital marketing. You may be required to perform administrative tasks, conduct market research, update and organize systems, draft marketing copy, support other experts on our team, etc.

Also, you will assist with special projects; design and produce documents, proposals, reports, and presentations; collect and prepare information for meetings with staff and outside parties; compose and prepare correspondence; maintain contact lists via in-house CRM.

Here are some things you might bring to the role:

- Love working with clients as their peer
- Design-minded and a creative thinker
- A natural networker and a connector
- You know your way around social media
- Facebook and Google ads experience
- Campaign strategy - "the big picture"

A few great-to-haves as well:

- Familiar with WordPress to make updates
- Experience with Wrike, MailChimp, Slack
- A strong communicator and storyteller - can break down a project simply to the team and effectively knows what steps need to happen and in what order

Gender identity can be highly personal subject, but that does not mean there isn't room for conversations about it in the workplace. Regardless of your office's demographics, encouraging pronoun sharing can normalize this practice both in the corporate arena, and on a larger social scale. What's more, pronoun sharing gives space for those who identify as transgender, gender non-binary, a-gender and/or gender-fluid to feel less isolated when sharing pronouns that fall outside binary language at work.
