Golden Gate Bridge πŸŒ‰

The story of Golden Gate Bridge is vision, resilience, and engineering marvel.

The Idea

The idea of building a bridge across the Golden Gate Strait was first discussed in the 19th century. The San Francisco Call and Post's editorial campaign in 1916 helped gain popular support.

The design

Joseph B. Strauss was the chief engineer, and Irving Morrow was the architect. The bridge's signature color, International Orange, was chosen by Morrow

The construction

Construction began on January 15, 1933. The bridge was considered impossible to build due to the Great Depression, political opposition, and the physical challenges of bridging the water.

The safety

Strauss implemented unprecedented safety measures, including an early version of the hard hat and a safety net that stretched under the bridge. The net saved many workers from falling into the water, earning them the nickname "Half-Way-to-Hell Club". However, in February 1937, a scaffold fell into the net and killed 10 workers.

The completion

The roadway was completed on April 19, 1937, and the bridge opened to pedestrians on May 27. President Franklin D. Roosevelt announced that the bridge was open to cars the following day.

The significance

The bridge's 4,200-foot main span was the longest for a suspension bridge until 1964. Its 746-foot towers made it the tallest bridge of any type until 1993. In 1994, the American Society of Civil Engineers declared the bridge a Wonder of the Modern world.

One of my happy pills is travel 🧳 yes, kasi madami kang makikitang magandang view, you also try foods, and you met people. I’d rather choose adventure than expensive things🧑
