Nakaiya and her partner, Joey, care for their son, Jonah, who was born with multiple rare, lifelong medical conditions and requires around-the-clock care. Because of Jonah’s needs, Nakaiya is unable to work, while Joey supports the family full time. She was nominated for her strength, selflessness, and unwavering dedication to her son in the face of overwhelming challenges.
