A candlelight vigil was held at the Ole Hanson Beach Club in San Clemente Monday night in memory of Los Angeles County firefighter Jonathan Flagler, who died while battling a house fire in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Flagler, 47, was a resident of San Clemente and was a married father of two boys, ages 15 and 13. He was also a medic for his son Jack’s football team.

October 18, 2021 | San Juan Capistrano, CA

CUSD families marched in protest against the Covid-19 vaccine mandate for students today. Parents/child advocates continue to rally & rise in number in defiance of the mandate demanding choice & medical freedom.

LSTV reached out to CUSD Trustee, Lisa Davis, who stated, “I fully support parents advocating for the right to choose for their children when it comes to the vaccine. Most of the parents are not against the vaccine, but want to ensure the product is safe before mandating it for our children who are largely protected from Covid 19 without a vaccine. The data doesn’t indicate that our children are in an emergency situation when it comes to Covid. The only governor in the nation with a mandate for children is Governor Newsom who has once again overstepped his boundary when it comes to children. The overwhelming response today shows parents want freedom, and as their representative, I will vote to ensure that in our school district.”

Per Gov. Gavin Newsom, California will require K-12 students to be vaccinated in order to attend in-person school, pending full FDA approval. The mandate could go into effect as early as January, making California first in the nation to implement the rule.

Today is World Day Against Human Trafficking. Supporters all over the world were invited to participate in RISE UP Demonstrations sponsored by OUR Rescue, Operation Underground Railroad. The peaceful awareness walks are a great way for supporters to speak up and start conversations about human trafficking in their communities.
O.U.R. Supporters congregated at the pier bowl and marched up & down Del Mar in San Clemente.

A brush fire broke out today north of Camp Pendleton at Christianitos Rd. OCFA records shows the call went out at approximately 1:51 PM. The fire burned 7.3 acres, credit due to OCFA for their aggressive initial response.

Local resident, Jay Nicholson, was near the scene and reported his first hand account of events to Local Story TV. “It was a fast attack by multiple agencies.” he said. “OCFA had one helicopter, OCFA Dozer crew, Cal Fire had their Helitack crew, plus two retardant drops that I saw. (Cal Fire C-130) but I was too far away to tell what the other plane was. You had OCFA, Camp Pendleton Fire, Laguna Beach Fire, OCSD, Rancho Mission Viejo Security. “

He also added, “The AirOps had some good drops when I was there which looked liked it stopped the forward progress of the fire. Plus the dozer line and they probably had a hand crew out there too.”

As of 10:45 PM, fire units are still at the scene and will stay overnight to maintain the containment line. Cause of the fire was listed as “unintentional”.

A pursuit turned into a standoff in north San Diego county just south of the San Clemente area causing the closure of I-5 early Wednesday morning. The suspect was reported to be wanted for domestic assault in San Diego, and a pursuit of the suspect headed northbound where law enforcement activity forced the closure of all northbound lanes between Basilone Road and Cristianitos Road. Subsequently, the southbound lanes were also closed causing the freeway to sit at a standstill.

Caltrans tweeted: "SB I-5 south of Cristianitos Rd. All SB traffic being diverted off to Cristianitos Rd."

Just after 6:50 a.m., all northbound I-5 lanes at Cristianitos Road were reopened, but the southbound lanes were shut down "until further notice," the CHP said.

UPDATE @ 8:04AM: I-5 S/B at Cristianitos Rd. has fully reopened.

Bill was able to come by and greet participants & took to the microphone w/ LSTV to thank his supporters. Chick-fil-A & Panera Bread offered coupons for participants. Good job Southern California Blood Bank who ran an extremely organized, enthusiastic & positive operation.
