Over the past month, outreach teams engaged daily with individuals, resulting in 35 accepting services such as temporary housing, rehab programs, and medical support. During the cleanup, campers had the option to take their belongings, store them for up to 90 days with the city, or dispose of them with Burrtec Waste Services.
To ensure campers do not return, the city will enforce anti-camping ordinances and park hours through patrols by park rangers and police.
โ๐ฃ๏ธCommunity advocates, led by the Just San Bernardino Collaborative, held a press conference Wednesday at Feldheym Public Library, urging a transparent redevelopment process for the Carousel Mall in Downtown San Bernardino.

Ana Gonzalez, Executive Director of the Center for Community Action and Environmental Justice, took the floor at the City Council meeting to deliver a powerful public comment against the proposed warehouse project. She criticized the use of a 1997 Environmental Impact Report, calling it outdated and inadequate for addressing todayโs environmental realities.
Gonzalez, backed by 30+ community members, called for a halt to the project and highlighted the potential impacts on air quality, respiratory health, and traffic safety for local residents. In the end, the council chose to delay their decision, continuing the public hearing to November 12, 2024. Visit IECN.com to read the full story!

At a City Council meeting, Mayor Pro Tem Ed Scott challenged Veolia, the cityโs water provider, questioning why the well remained operational despite the high levels.
Scott criticized Veoliaโs solution of blending water from different sources, calling it โdilutionโ and pushing for the wellโs closure.Veolia defended their actions, claiming the spike was an โanomalyโ due to the well being offline for months. The Consumer Confidence Report revealed that arsenic levels have steadily risen in Rialto, from 0.52 ppb in 2020 to 6.7 ppb in 2023. Though Veolia stated levels remain legally safe, the public health goal for arsenic is 0.004 ppb, a standard aimed at ensuring maximum safety for residents.
With a 30-year contract in place since 2012, the debate over water safety and Veoliaโs management continues. Visit IECN.com to read the full story.
