Next week on A Study in Crime
The story I have for you next week sounds like something from Shakespeare: star-crossed lovers, family loyalty, violence, greed, and fate—all in episode 22. The Red Hot Lovers Rob a Bank. I spoke with retired FBI Special Agent Frank Montoya, Jr. Frank was the SAC of the FBI’s Seattle office.
And don't miss this week’s episode: 21. A Home Invasion in Mexico City, with Dr. Nicole von Germeten. All on A Study in Crime astudyincrime.com and all podcast formats. #studyincrimepod #truecrimepodcast #truecrime #mexico #fbi #bankrobbery
21. A Home Invasion in Mexico City promo 1
In case you missed it, episode 21. A Home Invasion in Mexico City aired yesterday on A Study in Crime. Similar to how the Idaho Four Student Murders shocked the nation, this home invasion took the lives of 11 people and was called the crime of the century.
The first perpetrator was caught by chance. Someone noticed a small drop of blood, no bigger than a lentil bean, on a stranger’s hair tie. 21. A Home Invasion in Mexici City
Joaquin attended a party in the evening but left early to return home. Unfortunately, he walked into a violent home invasion already in progress at his mansion. Nicole von Germeten has studied the primary sources for this case. Listen as she describes what happened next.
The government official responsible for investigating the case issued a BOLO immediately and was tenacious in solving the crime. Evidence of premeditation was found in a local hotel room. The perpetrators were publicly executed where the Mexica (you know them as the Aztecs) performed human sacrifice a few hundred years earlier.
Find out what happened - Tomorrow, on episode 21. A Home Invasion in Mexico City, on A Study in Crime. Available on all podcast formats. #studyincrimepod #truecrime #podcast #mexico #deathinoldmexico
21. A Death in Mexico
Early on a cool Sunday morning in Mexico City, Jose Antonio Arrieta and several others stood at the large iron gate of Don Joaquin Dongo’s palatial estate not far from The Zócalo. After getting no response, Arrieta and the crowd were able to break through the gate and enter the estate. What they found horrified them and would go on to fundamentally change the nature of policing in Mexico.
This Tuesday, on the fastest-growing true crime podcast, I have a fascinating story about a violent home invasion that would shock a nation. It is a story of greed, envy, honor, and respect, only on A Study in Crime. Join me on Tuesday!

20. Arsenic and Old Midwives-promo 1
At first, no one noticed. There were explanations for all of them. But one by one, men who survived the horrors of World War I began getting sick and dying in several rural villages in Hungary. It soon spread to the younger men who had not gone to war. Then, a few children and even babies.
It continued this way for over 15 years. Was it something in the water or their diet? Was it a disease? Or was it something much more nefarious? Murder? Was it a conspiracy?

When men began mysteriously dying, everyone turned to the midwife for help.
In a mysterious turn of events, otherwise healthy men began getting sick and dying in a handful of rural towns in Hungary after returning home from the brutal battlefields of World War I. It soon started to affect children and infants.
The local physician, who was inebriated regularly, was preparing to retire and didn't give the deaths much thought. Fortunately, a local midwife was there to treat and comfort everyone.

Second Best Tuesday Debut for an episode of A Study in Crime
Thank you everyone! Episode 19. The Arsonist of River Park Lane was my second-best debut in “Listens/Downloads” for an episode of A Study in Crime. Only my episode with Dr. Ann Burgess had a better Tuesday.
Here’s a sample of the episode with 30-year veteran insurance investigator Christina Fiscella, CFE, aka @greycollarcrime She called it her “Case of a Lifetime.” After listening to the twists and turns, you’ll understand why.

19. The Arsonist of River Park Lane-promo 1
Do you like a good mystery? An engaging “Whodunit?” The Arsonist of River Park Lane is the latest episode of A Study in Crime. It's the sordid tale of arson, insurance fraud, and a woman who (almost) got what she wanted. She was an honor graduate of the George Costanza School for Prevaricators. Class motto? “It’s not a lie if you believe it.”
