MacArthur’s Ellie Lee and Faith Thomas reached career milestones this week; Southwest Girls Basketball received “Beyond the Game” recognition at the SA Sports All Star Football Game Saturday; McCollum’s Noelisa Espinoza tee’d up her 600th career assist; Jay’s Wynsdae Pacheco was one of four 28-5A volleyball players named to SAEN’s All Area team; SW Legacy Titans Boys Basketball (and their fans) are making noise; and official softball practices have begun.

Noelisa Espinoza flew under the radar for much of her early career while quietly and steadily contributing to McCollum's three consecutive district championships. Now, a senior having reached milestones of 1000+ points and 600+ assists, she has become one of 28-5As brightest marks on the screen.

Quick takes...
Girls have completed the first half of the season. In a nine-team district, 10 wins in a 16 game season should pretty much assure a team of a post-season berth. Thus our emphasis on five wins in the first half as a marker that at team is "on schedule." MacArthur, McCollum, Southwest, and SW Legacy are "on schedule."

The MacArthur/McCollum race is especially interesting because there is a better than 50/50 chance that they will both go into the D2 playoff bracket, so beyond a gold ball in the trophy case, the Brahmas and Cowboys are fighting for an advantageous seed.

The boys: Jay and SW Legacy, the two remaining unbeatens, won't meet until Game 8 of the first half. Jay must get by Winn and SW Legacy must get by Southwest for the Mustang/Titan meeting to be a "King of the Hill." Harlandale, Southwest, and South San still have shots at a five-win, first half.

Southwest set the the season's high-water mark for points scored in a district game. MacArthur beat Southside. We don't know the exact score, but we have ascertained that Southside had 48 points, and Mac had more than that. And that took some sleuthing. :)
