As many of you know I grew up in San Antonio, where there is a Taqueria on every corner and neighbors slipped in and out of Spanish because it's the TexMex way. I went to college in the midwest and went from the majority to a minority it was an eye opening expierence. I found myself calling home just so I can hear Spanish and learned to make my own breakfast tacos. I also learned about the importance of sharing my culture with others.
I wanted to dig into Mexican American history and speak to some of the leaders who have helped shaped Texas history thus came this short piece with local Latinx leaders.
A big thank you to FOX 7 Austin for supporting this piece and celebrating diversity in media because representation matters.
Shout out to Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center and the Austin History Center, Austin Public Library for helping me dig for all this information.
