Abuse at work is the only form of abuse in America that is not yet taboo. All other forms have been condemned – abuse of children, spouses, partners – while bullying at work is still considered a normal, inevitable or even a necessary business practice.
How normalized has workplace bullying become? According to the Workplace Bullying Institute, more than 60 million working people in the United States are affected by bullying.

At any age, bullying is unwanted, harmful, targeted behavior that happens at work. It might be spiteful, offensive, mocking or intimidating. It forms a pattern, and it tends to be directed at one person or a few people.
Many adults dismiss bullying and assume they are being too sensitive to criticism. But criticism meant to intimidate, humiliate, or single someone out without reason would be considered bullying.
The big question for many, how can I tell the difference between criticism and bullying? Bullying can be subtle. But typical workplace bullying behaviors are intimidating and usually related to work performance.
Unfortunately, the most common workplace bullying is part of the culture. Institutional bullying happens when a workplace accepts, allows, and even encourages bullying to take place. This bullying might include unrealistic production goals, forced overtime, or singling out those who can’t keep up.
