It’s that time of the year again!!!

This is the 4th year that I have been collecting these type of donations for the under privileged and unhoused women in San Antonio.

We have all heard of period poverty, but what is it and why collect donations?

People who menstruate need to have access to safe & affordable sanitary materials to get through those rough days. Having the things you need during this time is often taken for granted. Not everyone who needs these supplies has access to them. Not being able to have the things you need, during your period, can increase risk for infections. Most people who don’t have the necessities are to embarrassed to ask for them and “just make due” with paper towels or folded up articles of clothing. Imagine that. 😔

Now, if you are a menstruating person, you may understand this or even have sympathy for those who go without but chances are, if you don’t have a period, you probably don’t care.

For those who think this is a waste of time…I’m sure you have a friend, family member or coworker who has experienced period poverty at some point in their life. I urge you to do this in honor of them, to support them and to show people you care.

These supplies are desperately needed, especially here in San Antonio, where our homeless community, asylum seekers, and less fortunate numbers are through the roof. San Antonio also has a high domestic abuse rate and the folks at the Battered Women’s Shelter are in need as well.

With all that said, I hope you can find it in your heart and your day to make some time to donate towards this cause. Truly, anything and everything helps.

Many families in our area are struggling, and the festive season can be particularly challenging. A small gesture like a gift for a child can make a significant difference.

The Bexar County Clerk's Office is hosting a toy drive and are seeking donations of new, unwrapped gifts for children of any age. Your contribution will help ensure children in our community experience the joy and wonder of the holiday season.

Toys can be delivered to three areas of our office:

Bexar County Courthouse, 100 Dolorosa Ste. 104
Paul Elizondo Tower, 101 W. Nueva Ste. 103

Why is this a Fiesta staple? Idk but I am sure glad it is! 😋 Fun fact-my step mom's family ran a turkey leg/gordita booth at the parade and at The Taste of New Orleans ever year and when I met my hubby, his family ran the bean taco booth at NIOSA so I consider myself a fiesta food connoisseur. This spooky season, he introduced me to The Old Bexar County Jail, or as it’s known today as the Holiday Inn Express. Nestled behind Penners, this building is very easy to miss.
