Every Friday, we look forward to a floodlight-lit game studded with hooks and pins
The coaches watching from a sideline with bated breath, amid jeers and wails
Twenty-two well trained muscula
r beasts, striving to control one small oval ball even in pain
The dodge and shift, from the quarterbacks to the tailbacks, and the wide receivers are not relenting. They pass the oval ball from one end to the other end
Bone and flesh will meet flesh and bone
In Texas, a few athletes here are playing for the fame
But a majority are here for the long game
And the deafening roar and throb of the crowd makes them care
Look out, West Texas studs are the undisputed bomb and fuse
Even in the Texas State Championships, we will strive to take the whole pie and cruise
Padded limbs helmeted heads, we are like gladiators on a green turf
The stadium is our arena, the scoreboard might keep the time, but we have the stuff
The final blow of the whistle will confirm their bluff! Majestic goal posts stand at the either end
Each side starts a wave moving towards the opposition
They get knocked down, get up, 'cause that can't be the reason
Our soldiers know back to back wins and losses brings the winning season
Like autumn and spring, the long awaited football madness season starts to draw near
Our District and State Championships will soon be here
The gladiator's super fans are elated; a few will be dismayed
We all can't wait to see our favorite sides play
Faces painted, costumed adorned, the smell of the new turf in the air
It's no doubt our high school version of the Superbowl!
