When George Strait came to Utah on what had been billed as “the Cowboy Rides Away” tour, he was known as that quiet Country Music star who had sold 120 million record albums but was not known for giving interviews. His 13 year old daughter, Jennifer, had died in a horrible car crash in 1986, and as he said afterward, “he just kinda shut down, and didn’t feel like talking”. And so it was during the Salt Lake City leg of his tour in January of 2013, that he sat down to do a lengthy interview for the first time in a long time, to talk about his history and legacy for an upcoming exhibit in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

He was very open and full of details about his life, his music and his future. He also allowed us to film his rehearsal and allowed us to briefly follow him into the into the concert after he was announced to a rousing standing ovation. His fans obviously adore the man. And we got a great story on a unique, but somewhat reserved superstar.

White Rabbit Productions is excited to share a piece of Utah's ice hockey history as Smith Entertainment Group ushers in a new era with NHL hockey in the state. Recently, a big welcome party was held for the Arizona Coyotes at the Delta Center celebrating their relocation and upcoming rebranding.

Digging into the archives, we thought it would be fun to share this unique video we filmed in the 1980s, featuring a mic'd-up legendary NHL referee Kerry Fraser during a Salt Lake Golden Eagles game. Kerry later became famous for the non-call on Wayne Gretzky during the 1993 Stanley Cup playoffs (https://youtu.be/toPulmPw0qQ?si=O2ojDRLA6KQFaxVB). The minor-league Golden Eagles were the first team to call Utah home and played 25 seasons from 1969 to 1994. Kerry gets a little graphic with his language, but it is, after all, a hockey game.

This throwback highlights the early days of ice hockey in Utah and sets the stage for the thrilling developments ahead.

🏈 Jackson Powers Johnson is tired of waiting for that phone call. He spent Thursday night with 40 close family and friends nervously waiting for the NFL Draft to call his name. He is big, quick and aggressive but at 21 years of age, he would be one of the youngest draft picks. He is an Utah product, having graduated from Corner Canyon High and spending the last three years playing as a star center for the Oregon Football team. And tonight, he is spending his second night, focused on the giant TV screen awaiting his future in the NFL. The disappointment of not hearing his name called on Day 1 has come and gone. Perhaps playing a game of golf, on a drenched golf course with no one else in sight, would help calm his nerves.

But today, Day 2 of the NFL draft, his future changed and he was able to celebrate his selection as the 44th pick, going to the Las Vegas Raiders. We congratulate Jackson and his parents and family on this well deserved honor and will continue to watch his progress in the NFL.

🌟 Exploring new frontiers right here in Utah: Years ago White Rabbit Productions CEO Sam Prigg ventured to The Mars Society's Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) in Hanksville, Utah to capture the life of scientists preparing for life on the red planet.

The station is one of two places in the world that supports simulations where crews live as if they are isolated on Mars, conducting experiments and practicing the self-sufficiency required for future manned missions to Mars. 🚀

Diving deep into the heart of Green River, Wyoming, TataChemicals North America hired us to film the impressive scale of their underground mining operations, which annually process 4.5 million tons of trona ore. Trona ore, a mineral rich in soda ash, is crucial for over half of all soda ash production, supporting glass manufacturing and a wide array of other products including powdered detergents, soaps, rechargeable batteries, and uses in metallurgical processes, as well as the food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries.

Located on the 'mile-high' prairies of southwestern Wyoming, the Green River facility sits atop the world's largest reserves of trona ore. We had to send our drones up high to capture the scale of this facility and go underground to show details of mining equipment in action.

White Rabbit Productions has done a number of shoots for the PBS program "Ethics and Religion" throughout the years, but one of the most memorable was when we covered the "Parliament of the Worlds Religions" in the Salt Palace a few years ago.

It's a program and ceremony that is held every three years and it is the one place you can witness the coming together of 75 of the world's religions at one time. And while we might all think we know a bit about the Catholic, Protestant, Methodist, LDS, Jewish, Sikh, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhist, Muslim, Amish, and some of the common traits and traditions they all share, I had not realized there is one group that has been around for thousands of years and was established here in the Americas- the tribes of the Native American.

So when the Salt Palace conference hall was filled with 8,000 participants waiting for the last group to enter before the ceremonies were to begin, the leaders of those tribes and their members solemnly danced-paraded in with the accompanying sounds of the massive drum circle on stage. It was a remarkable scene with the various religious leaders wearing their religious garb, wanting to catch a glimpse and take pictures of a unique parade of tribal unity and solemn pageantry.

It gives us all pause to think what is the nature of religion and what are your faiths based on. Obviously, with all these religions in the world, it is whatever works for you.
