08/06/2024

Here is my Tuesday morning update on and what to expect for later this week and the start of the weekend.

The boundary to our north will be pushing into the region by tonight and into Wednesday and will start to spring up some scattered showers and storms throughout the day on Wednesday. As Debby starts to move slowly toward the north, the moisture from the storm will interact with the boundary and will provide more showers and storms into Wednesday night and throughout the day on Thursday.

The big pull from this front on Debby will start on Thursday evening and night and will pull the storm into our region for Friday into Friday night and early on Saturday. It's during this time where the heaviest rain will fall across the region and when our strongest wind gusts of 40-50 mph are going to be possible. The storm will push out of the region by Saturday afternoon with improving conditions by Saturday night and into Sunday.

The models have trended downward with the rain totals possible from this storm with regards to the increase in speed that will happen by Friday into Saturday and will be gone by Saturday afternoon. I am not ready to trend all the way to where the models are at the moment, but we could still tweak the rain forecast.

As of right now, I have the region getting between 3-6" of rain with some locally heavier amounts to as much as 8" could be possible in some neighborhoods by the time it ends on Saturday afternoon.

I did see some folks question about tornado threats with this storms...that forecast will be a wait and see. At the moment, with how far inland the storm is projected to go, we can't rule it out (we are on the dirty side of the storm), but notice that the cone of uncertainty over us is still very large. Lots of things could still change between now and Friday.

I will write another long post with my thoughts probably either late on Wednesday or early on Thursday and that will be my last thoughts before we get into the meat and potatos of this storm.

A pretty good Tuesday is on tap for us with temperatures up into the 80s and some low 90s this afternoon. The heat index values will be near 100 later today as the humidity will go up slowly. I'll have an update on my thoughts on what to expect with Debby later this morning.
