NEWS: The Beaver Moon at Salisbury?! Last Supermoon of ‘24 Brightens up SU!

Under the crisp November sky, Salisbury University was basked in the luminous glow of the last supermoon of 2024, the enchanting Beaver Moon. This celestial event, named after the industrious beavers preparing for winter, marked the end of the year’s supermoon season in stunning fashion. Shining brighter and appearing larger than usual, the moon cast a silvery spotlight over the campus, creating a serene and almost magical atmosphere for students, faculty, and the local community.

NEWS: 7 SU students charged with alleged hate crime off-campus

Seven Salisbury University students were arrested on assault and hate crime charges in connection with an attack that the Salisbury Police Department says occurred at an off-campus apartment complex. The incident happened in University Park, a nearby apartment complex, on Oct. 15, according to police.

Police say detectives met with witnesses and obtained cell phone footage of the victim being assaulted by several college-aged men. According to CBS, police discovered that one of the men created a Grindr account and posed as a 16-year-old to lure the victim to their residence where he was then assaulted.

Salisbury University hosted a panel consisting of two liberal voters and two conservative voters the night before Election Day. The event encouraged students to vote in the 2024 presidential election, regardless of political affiliation.

GULL LIFE: Saferide: A safe and confidential ride home

Saferide is a student-run transportation service free to Salisbury University undergraduate students. They operate Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights from 10 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. within a 3-mile radius of campus.

The service safely transported over 1,000 students within its first week of operation. However, the staff realize that some students are hesitant to use Saferide as they might be afraid of any negative repercussions, especially since the inside of the van is always being recorded.

NEWS: Reproductive Rights Discussion Incites Tension on Campus

This summer break marked the second anniversary of the Dobbs decision that overturned the precedent set by Roe v. Wade about the constitutional limits of bodily autonomy — most notably, the right to abortion.

Since 2022 when the decision was made, 14 states (most of which are clustered in the South), have overseen a total ban on abortion, even in cases dealing with protecting health of the mother. Amber Thurman, a 28-year-old woman, was one victim from lack of care in Georgia; in lieu of the shift in Georgia’s law, medical professionals hesitated to perform an emergency abortion that would have saved her life.

Her story is not the only instance of a worst-case scenario coming to fruition, or even in Georgia alone. Outraged pro-life advocates have been stirring the pot with pro-life supporters all over America in the wake of Dobbs. A heated debate on the topic was brought to Salisbury University students’ own backyards Sept. 24 when members of the anti-abortion groupStudents for Life of America came to Red Square.
