Good morning North County!

Yesterday, 3 firefighters deployed in the Office of Emergency Services (OES) engine as part of Task Force 2803 to the Shelly Fire. 4 of the engines in the Task Force are from Monterey County agencies (Salinas, Monterey, and Regional) with a Water Tender from Vacaville joining the group at base camp. All units are currently assigned to structure protection for the communities along Highway 3 near Yreka. While the fire isn’t close yet, triple digit heat forecasts, dry fuel, and canyon/slope winds can change that very quickly.

While difficult and potentially devastating, these incidents set the bar in displaying the robust Mutual Aid system throughout California. When local resources are insufficient, everyone should feel better knowing that help will come from all over the state when called upon.

Station 3 - 301 Elkhorn Road in Royal Oaks

Burn season 🔥 runs through April 30th.

Remember, burning is allowed only on Permissive Burn Days and properties 1/2 acre and larger.

ALISAL RD / FUJI LN

The California highway patrol responded to a solo vehicle rollover on Alisal Road an Fuji Lane. The driver was able to self extricate with no injuries. Officers conducted a field sobriety test (FST) on the driver and was subsequently arrested for DUI.

Merritt St / Cooper St

One person was arrested for DUI after crashing into 2 parked cars causing his vehicle to roll on its roof.

The incident took place in Castroville on Merritt St.

The California Highway Patrol conducted a field sobriety tests (FTSs) and the driver was subsequently arrested for DUI.

No victims were involved other than damage property.

Overnight Salinas Police were investigating a head-on crash that involved 2 vehicles. One person sustained fatal injuries and 3 were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Video shows first responders taking immediate life saving measures.

The investigation to this incident is on going.

Several trees and power lines down.

1 person was transported for major injuries due to a tree falling on the victim.

Southbound Highway 101 / Somavia Rd

High-speed pursuit following deadly homicide in the city of Gilroy.

The California Highway Patrol located a vehicle matching the description of a shooting that took place in Gilroy.

CHP Officers attempted to pullover the vehicle but failed to stop, and a vehicle pursuit ensued. Spike strips were deployed with success of hitting the suspect vehicle. The lengthy pursuit ended at Somavia Rd.

One male suspect was taken into custody for felony evading. Pending further investigation.

There were no injuries or traffic collisions during this pursuit.

The shooting is under investigation by Gilroy Police.
