A special message from the editor: If you haven't received your Farm and Dairy yet, we might know why. Two pallets of our fine publication were misdirected to New Jersey by the Akron Post Office, affecting many subscribers.

These papers are on their way back to Ohio as we speak, but they'll definitely be late. We're so sorry for the delay.

If you have any questions, email [email protected] or call us at 800-837-3419. Our office is closed now for the weekend, but we'll be back on Monday at 8 a.m.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

“This is the Super Bowl of chickens,” said Jacob Bates, an American Poultry Association and American Bantam Association licensed judge.

A roughly 100-yard stretch of roadway along State Route 668 near Laurel Hill was turned gold yesterday afternoon after being buried in corn, creating a wicked mess for cleanup crews, which responded promptly to the spill and worked for three to four hours to clear the area.

After a corn spill on State Route 668 in Licking County, the road is open again, but wildlife concerns remain as officials investigate.

Environmental activists held a rally outside of the Appalachian Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub's Southern West Virginia open house on Nov. 7, protesting for more public involvement in the project.

They called upon ARCH 2 leaders to halt negotiations and choose a different path for clean energy.

"We need a future for our children,” said Maury Johnson, a retired farmer. “I’ve seen too many students leave this state because of everything going on in fossil fuels. Chemicals is not a solution."

Nine days after a fire engulfed Blair and Karen Kotkowski's main barn, one of their silos caught fire and is expected to burn for months.

“You know, you put the fire out, it’s a done deal, right? It’s not done. I don’t know. It’s not a done deal,” Blair said.

If you've stuck with me this long, thank you for reading! These columns were challenging to write, and I often wondered if I even said what I wanted to say at the end. I agreed to write them before I understood how I would feel following my disaster relief mission but I'm grateful for the opportunity to share my experience with the Farm and Dairy family. I hope you enjoy this last one, and it ties everything together for those of you who've been following along.

With Gratitude,
Sara Welch

Nick Park likes to incorporate both his family and the country's history into most products at veteran-owned business Park Family Farms Distillery.

Likewise, every year on Veteran's Day, veteran business owner Kim McLaughlin honors his fellow servicemen with a free bottle of vodka from McLaughlin Distillery.

"On Marine Corps birthday, you have different generations, the grandfather, the father, the son and the grandson, all Marines come in at the same time. And of course, all of them think they’ve had it the worst,” McLaughlin laughs. “But then everybody’s talking ‘Hey, where’d you serve?’ We have a lot of fun with it, that’s a couple of the nicest days of the year."

Veterans Kim McLaughlin, owner of McLaughlin Distillery, and Nick Park, owner of Park Family Farms Distillery, make spirits to honor veterans and American history.

The West Virginia Department of Tourism's new Paranormal Trail seeks to highlight the state's reportedly most haunted sites.

The trail acts as a digital passport that rewards individuals for visiting the locations, 18 in total, through a tier system of prizes.

Lake Shawnee abandoned amusement park and the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum are both on the Paranormal Trail, and home to decades, even centuries of dark history.

West Virginia's new Paranormal Trail encourages people to visit the states most haunted sites including Lake Shawnee and the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum.
