The Creative Arts Center in Salem will hold a beginner Friendly Cell Phone Crossbody Pouch Sewing Class on Saturday, January 18th from 9:00 in the morning until 3:00 in the afternoon with Gail Phelan that includes a break for lunch. This is a great beginner project for those who are interested in learning the art of making bags. Bring your own sewing machine. Students should know how to operate their machine. All fabric, hardware, zips and webbing will be provided as well as basic tools for your use in the class. Feel free to bring any favorite markers, clips, etc. The class is open to all those 18 and older. There must at least two people sign up to hold the class and it will be limited to four. To sign up, go to the SACBA website, click on “Programs” link and then on the Creative Arts Center.

Sports Blues & Tigers:
The St. Louis Blues started a four-game homestand last night against the Anaheim Ducks. The Blues hit the ice shooting. Robert Thomas, Tyler Tucker, Jordan Kyrou, and Dylan Holloway would all score in the first period. The Blues would remain dominate throughout the game and claim a 6-2 victory over the Ducks. The Blues will face off against the Columbus Blue Jackets this Saturday evening at 6:00. Columbus leads the season series 1-0 with a 6-4 victory earlier this month. You can listen to this game live on KSMO radio following the Mizzou game.

The 12-3 Mizzou Tigers will host the 13-2 Vanderbilt Commodores Saturday afternoon at 2:30. Both teams are 1-1 in SEC play. Tune into KSMO Radio at 2:00 for the pregame show, tip off to follow at 2:30.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers began their SCA Conference play at Ava last night with a loss to the Lady Bears 61-28. Due to the incoming weather only the Varsity game was played. The Lady Tigers will host Houston Monday evening with JV to start at 6:00 and Varsity to follow. You can listen to this game live on KSMO radio 1340 AM & 95.7 FM or watch it on KSMOradio.com with Tiger Talk starting around 6:50.

The Salem Tigers Boys Basketball game with the Sullivan Eagles at the SHS Gymnasium tonight has been POSTPONED and rescheduled for a varsity and JV game only on February 3rd starting at 6:00.

The Dent County Commissioners met Thursday morning at the courthouse. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams reported on the sales tax received this month. The General Revenue Fund and Law Enforcement Sales Tax Fund each received $92,864.40 which is less than the $98,823.98 received in January of 2024. Funeral services for Emogene Sue Welch of Salem, age 57, will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 10:00 Tuesday morning until service time in the chapel. Burial will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Billie Lee Shults of Salem, age 87, will be held at 11:00 Wednesday morning in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 Tuesday evening in the chapel. Burial will be in the Dry Fork Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Corinth Baptist Church.

Braiden Gapsch hit a three-pointer from near the scorer’s table with three seconds left in regulation to force overtime, but the West Plains Zizzers outlasted the Salem Tigers Wednesday night in winning 60-57. Gapsch finished with 25 points while Lincoln Thomas ended up with 11 more for Salem who falls to 4-8 on the year and will host Sullivan Friday night near 7:30 and that game can be heard on KSMO Radio and it will be video streamed on KSMO Media.

The West Plains Zizzers “C” Team beat Salem Wednesday night, 42-25 and Zizzer JV also won by beating the Salem JV Tigers, 48-36. The Salem “C ” team is 1-6 on the year and the JV is 4-4, losing four of their last five games. The Sullivan Eagles come to town Friday night starting with the “C” team game at 5:00 to be followed by the JV Tigers game at 6:15 at the SHS Gym.

The Dent County Health Center is providing warming items for those in need with winter coats, gloves, mittens, hats and NEW socks. They will continue to provide the service this year, but right now they are in need of support from Salem and Dent County to replenish their stock. If you would like to help restock the items people have already picked up, you can donate gloves, mittens, all sizes of hats, new socks and blankets. For more information, to donate items or to make monetary donations for staff to purchase items for the warming center at the Dent County Health Center, or if you need someone to pick up your donations, feel free to call them at 729-3106 or stop by the Dent County Health Center on Highway 32-72 East.

The Healthy Dent County Fitness Center will again offer their Line Dancing classes again this year Tuesday nights throughout the month of February at 6:30 at the Salem Community Center @ The Armory.
