Huge MEG in Shallow Water! #megalodon #fishing #fossils
This tooth eroded directly out of a geologic unit called the Hawthorn formation. The other rocks you see next to the tooth come from the same formation. These rocks, teeth, and bone are eroded from the formation by the river and deposited on top of hard limestone, siltstone, or clay traps. This is why you can find many kinds of fossils right on the surface in rivers. All of these fossils and rocks were originally deposited when this area was over 100 feet underwater during the Miocene (23.03 to 5.33 million years ago).
