Effective January 1st, Alexander Pavlicin became our director of operations and joined Elva Resa Publishing LLC’s management team as a business partner (member owner). Congratulations, Alexander!

The son of Elva Resa’s founder, Karen Pavlicin, Alexander has been part of the Elva Resa and Military Family Books community throughout his life. We thought it would be fun to share a few photos!

Collage 1: Alexander has been attending trade shows and events since he was 4 years old! A: with author Elizabeth Raum (Cedric and the Dragon) talking to a bookseller at BookExpo 2010 in New York City. B: sharing our children’s books at American Library Association Conference 2024 in San Diego. C: One thing he loves about events is catching up with his favorite authors. Alexander first met Kate DiCamillo at a book festival in 2005 when he told her he was writing a book, too. As they’ve reconnected over the years, she’s challenged him to finish that novel. Directing the operations of a publisher and bookseller is cool though, too, right Kate?!

Collage 2: Alexander has always been surrounded by military and first responder members and supportive creative professionals. Connecting with people who understand service and grief is important to Alexander, personally and professionally. A: on the set of Grace is Gone in 2006 with actor John Cusack, director Jim Strouse, and set designer Lissette Schettini. B: Marines at his dad’s interment in 2003. C: firefighter Uncle Richie. D: firefighter Tim Hoppey Author (The Good Fire Helmet) at BEA 2010. E. retired Marine Corps MGySgt Bob Masters at ALA in 2024.

We put up a new tree in our office this holiday season, topped with a yellow ribbon. This tree will stay up year round to honor military families who sometimes celebrate holidays at other times of the year when they can be together again.

We decorated our tree with handmade photo ornaments of special people and special moments. Here is a glimpse of a few of these special ornaments of our authors, artists, partners, customers, team members, and supportive community. We will continue to add more throughout the new year and welcome visitors to add yours, too!

Thank you for being part of our community. It is an honor to create and distribute quality books with and for you.

We wish you all the best this holiday and look forward to continuing our mission together next year!

Our holiday message this year is expressed by Karin Tramm, author of "100 Days Smart: A kindergarten teacher shares lessons on life, learning, and community during the COVID-19 outbreak in bella Italia."

As an early childhood educator and military spouse, Karin has lived and taught around the world, including Vicenza, Italy, where her memoir takes place. As she and her family learned, being deployed or overseas during the holidays can be both a great adventure and a little lonely being apart from loved ones. It's wonderful to hear that you're in their thoughts even when you can't be together in person.

Karin wishes "happy holidays to friends, family, and readers here and around the world. If you are working or living overseas during this holiday season, please know you're in our hearts now and always."

At Elva Resa Publishing and Military Family Books, we are grateful to authors like Karin for sharing their experience with others.

To everyone in our community, we wish you all a wonderful holiday!

Dear Santa and Mrs. Claus,
Please bring everyone in the 934th Airlift Wing everything on their wishlist, especially Kelly W and the family support team, who made it possible for military families to enjoy more than 800 of our books this year. That kindness deserves a special place on your nice list!

Also, thanks for sharing the spotlight with author Krista Betcher at the airlift wing holiday party so she could sign copies of her picture books, Star's Purpose: A Military Mission and El propósito de Estrella: Una misión militar, and help the kids make stars out of paper straws.

Rudolph is looking a little like a C-130 this year! Safe travels around the world this Christmas Eve. Give our best to military kids everywhere and especially to our deployed service members who are away from home over the holidays.

Merry Christmas,
Your friends at Elva Resa and Military Family Books

**The 934th Airlift Wing, known as the “Global Vikings,” is Minnesota’s Air Force Reserve unit. We are so grateful for your service and for all you do to support military families in our community!**

.. "This is an important book, not only for military leaders seeking to become more effective but also for senior spouses reflecting on their experiences over the past two decades, as well as newer spouses trying to understand the evolution of family programming. Corie dedicates substantial attention to the effects of war on families, offering perspectives that challenged me to think differently about aspects of military life I hadn’t fully considered before reading this book."

Repost with thanks!
Military Spouse Highlight #45!

This week’s Military Spouse Highlight is Karin Tramm. She is an Author and Retired Early Childhood Educator, and Navy retiree spouse. She was able to successfully change her career throughout her life as a military spouse.

She began teaching in 1983 in Guam, before she met her husband. It’s also where she had her travel article published in The Pacific Daily News. She then went to work for DoDEA (then DoDDS) in the Philippines in 1986 where she met her husband, Gene. He went to Naples, Italy, and she transferred to Bamberg, Germany. When they got married, she was able to transfer to Naples and keep her job.

They then moved to Guam, where she taught in the local school system again, and then to Monterey where they started a family. She taught Pre-K there and wrote a couple of travel articles for the Monterey Herald. From there they went to Iceland, where she opened a photography business and wrote a regular travel column for families in the base newspaper, The White Falcon, the USO News, and Iceland Explorer magazine.

Next was Norfolk, where she stayed home while Gene was deployed. Their next duty station took them back overseas to Spain. There she went back to work for DoDEA and continued her photography business as well. Before her husband retired, she was able to get a transfer to Italy. In time, Gene became a certified teacher as well and they ended up staying in Italy for 16 years.

She is now a retired DoDEA teacher, a writer, and author of the book 100 Days Smart. This is a memoir following her experience teaching in Vicenza, Italy, during the initial pandemic outbreak and a light-hearted look at virtual school with five-year-olds. She left Vicenza in 2022 and now resides in Parrish, FL.

NMSN Military Spouse Highlights powered by are short interviews featuring talented, accomplished military spouse professionals. We hope you’ll consider sharing YOUR story with us!

Repost
Today, our Eighth Grade students had the opportunity to interview alumna Jennifer Tuero “J.T.” Blatty ‘96 (), a US combat veteran and photojournalist who graduated from the US Military Academy West Point and served six years as an active duty US Army Officer. Since early 2018, she has been documenting the conflict in eastern Ukraine, taking portraits of Donbas volunteer soldiers.

The Eighth Grade is in the middle of a cross-disciplinary project exploring the history and significance of Veterans Day through their English and Social Studies classes. The project is strongly focusing on personal stories of veterans to gain a deeper understanding of the holiday. The students came prepared with insightful questions about her time at West Point, what it was like being among the first soldiers to enter Afghanistan, how she immersed herself in different cultures, and what she enjoys most about wartime photography.

Congratulations to author Corie Weathers on today's release of her audiobook edition of Military Culture Shift: The Impact of War, Money, and Generational Perspective on Morale, Retention! A clinical consultant and expert on military culture, Corie narrated her book as well.

Corie trains and consults with military and policy leaders from a variety of institutions and organizations, including all US military service branches and the US Department of Defense. She says, “Today’s leaders are consuming information faster than ever before, and they rely on the convenience of audible content to further their learning during commutes, physical training, and deployment."

Released in hardcover in November 2023 and recognized by the 2024 Senators Bob and Elizabeth Dole Biennial Award for Distinguished Book in Veterans Studies, Military Culture Shift has sparked new conversations within the Army War College, Air Command and Staff College, and National Defense University for future commanders as they prepare to take on leadership roles. The book’s message inspires leaders to reconstitute those weary from the Global War on Terror while motivating younger generations who bring new strengths and values to the force.
