During the meal Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take this; this is my body.” In the same way he took a cup, gave thanks, and passed it to them, and all drank from it. “This is my blood, the blood of the covenant, to be poured out on behalf of many. I will never drink again of the fruit of the vine until the day I drink it new in the kingdom of God (14.22-25).

Jesus spoke to Philip and Andrew. “The hour has come when the Son of Man will be glorified. Amen, amen, I say to you, unless the grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone. But if it dies, it will bear much fruit. Those who love their lives will lose them. Those who hate their lives in this world will keep them to life eternal. Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there also will my servant be. The Father will honor whoever serves me” (John 12.23-26).

Today for : Be amazed! Psychologists suggest that experiences of awe are good for us. Viewing the Grand Canyon or the Grand Tetons fill us with wonder and humility. Our sense of self recedes. We don’t have to travel to experience awe. A short walk can bring us to a flower bed, a nest of robins, a big piece of sky. Stopping, breathing, listening, opening our senses will lead to moments of wonder and joy. Practice a little awe this week. See where it takes you.

Immediately after his baptism the Spirit drove Jesus into the desert. There for 40 days Satan tested him. He was with wild beasts, and angels ministered to him. After John the Baptist was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, saying “The time is fulfilled. God’s reign has come near. Repent and believe the good news (Mark 1.12-15).
