UVa-Wise is seeking two Opportunity SWVA community builder positions that will work alongside residents and local officials in four Southwest Virginia (SWVA) communities to advance economic strategies that build upon the region’s outdoor recreation, cultural assets, and unique opportunities in technology and health. One position will work in the City of Norton and town of Dungannon, while the other position will work in the towns of Haysi and St. Paul. As part of a regional network of local leaders, candidates will take part in physical improvement and business development strategies including Opportunity SWVA’s Rally entrepreneurial communities program, the Friends of Southwest Virginia’s Appalachian Spring initiative, and specific local projects funded in part by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development and the Appalachian Regional Commission.
$12/hr, 29 hrs/week.
Term of service: October 1, 2017- September 30, 2018.
