Why Brides Shouldn’t Shop for Wedding Vendors Like They Shop on Amazon
THE PITFALL OF PRICE-DRIVEN DECISION MAKING
In the digital age, it’s tempting to approach wedding planning like an online shopping spree. After all, we’re accustomed to comparing prices, reading reviews, and clicking “Add to Cart.” However, when it comes to selecting wedding vendors, this approach can be detrimental. Here’s why:
Beyond the Price Tag: Weddings are not commodities. Unlike a pair of shoes or a gadget, your wedding day is a unique and deeply personal experience. It’s a celebration of love, commitment, and shared dreams. Choosing vendors based solely on price overlooks the emotional and transformative aspects of this special day.
Remember the bigger picture. While budget considerations are essential, they should not overshadow the overall vision and quality of your wedding. A vendor’s price tag is just one piece of the puzzle.
Personality and Professionalism Matter: The Human Connection: Your wedding vendors are not faceless entities. They are individuals who will play a significant role in shaping your memories. Their personalities, communication style, and ability to connect with you matter.
The Consultation Process: A professional wedding vendor invests time and energy in getting to know you. They listen to your story, understand your preferences, and tailor their services accordingly. This personalized approach ensures that your wedding reflects your unique love story.
Vendor Relationships: When you choose a vendor based on personality and professionalism, you’re not just hiring a service; you’re building a relationship. Trust, mutual understanding, and clear communication are crucial for a successful collaboration.
The Price of Professionalism: Experience and Expertise: Professionals charge more because they bring years of experience, expertise, and industry knowledge to the table. They’ve honed their craft, navigated various wedding scenarios, and can handle unexpected challenges seamlessly.
Investment in You: A professional vendor invests time beyond the wedding day. They attend consultations, rehearsals, and coordinate with other vendors. Their commitment extends far beyond the hours of your celebration.
Customization and Creativity: Professionals offer personalized solutions. Whether it’s a bespoke floral arrangement, a customized menu, or a unique photo concept, they create magic that aligns with your vision.
The Intangible Value of Professionalism: Peace of Mind: On your wedding day, you want to focus on love, joy, and celebration—not logistics or vendor mishaps. A professional ensures a seamless experience, allowing you to savor every moment.
Memories That Last: When you invest in professionalism, you’re investing in memories. The heartfelt vows, the laughter, the tears—all captured beautifully by skilled photographers and videographers.
Legacy: Your wedding isn’t just about the day itself; it’s part of your love story’s legacy. A professional vendor contributes to that legacy by creating timeless moments.
CONCLUSION
As you plan your wedding, resist the urge to treat vendors like items in a virtual cart. Look beyond the price tags, seek out vendors who resonate with your vision, and appreciate the value of professionalism. Remember, you’re not just buying a service; you’re investing in memories that will last a lifetime.

A little event recap/rant. Think of this when you hire a DJ and think they just play music. It's much more than that. This past weekend I had a wedding in Atlantic Beach. I will not mention the venue, but the ceremony was to be held outside, followed by cocktail hour, and introductions into dinner and buffet inside, with dancing back out on the patio later that evening. The venue was adjacent to the Atlantic Beach public area where they were scheduled to light the Christmas tree and hold festivities for thousands of people. Music and dance routines, as well as some speeches from city commissioners and such. That said there's wireless frequencies from microphones, cell phones, lighting, etc. and various things that can wreak havoc on an a wedding only a stones throw away. Prior to the wedding I went over and met with the production crew of the event and made sure all our wireless audio and lighting frequencies wouldn't interfere with each other. It happens and you need to know how to prevent it. Set yourself up for success ALL WAYS! Make sure you scan for frequencies at every event and keep yours as separate from others as possible. Besides a little noise coming from the festivities in the background we had a flawless ceremony with cocktails to follow. Now,, the threat of in climate weather is on the radar, and I'm on a patio with a cover that needs replacement. It's failed me before. I had a $1000 speaker get flooded under the cover last year during a rain storm that hit during dinner there. I assumed it was covered and safe. You know what they say about assuming anything. There was also no way to run a cable from the patio indoors without leaving a tripping hazard since the patio floor was too dusty for gaff tape to stick to it. So I reached in my tool kit for another wireless receiver and ran it that way. Problem solved. Being prepared pays off! Now, 3/4's through cocktail hour the storm started to hit hard!!!! All our guests were invited to find seats inside and we continued to introduce the wedding party as planned and do the blessing before dinner the dinner buffet opens. It's all on the schedule. We had a coordinator as well as a banquet manager on site to help with this. Unfortunately, they did not check to see if the buffet was actually ready for for the guests. You can imagine how that was received. Your job is to coordinate. Between a coordinator and banquet manager this should have been simple. At this point the patio shelter is leaking on my DJ setup and lighting, so I made the decision to break it down and move it all inside. I already had a speaker indoors playing music, and I switched the signal to my backup i pad to avoid any dreaded silence during dinner. We didn't miss a beat. No problem! At this point I asked for a rag to dry off some equipment. I asked 4 times before I had to snap at one of the staff members about it. And guests are pressuring me about the buffet not being ready. They think I work for the hotel. I'm like no, I'm sorry I don't work here, I'm hired as the DJ. Anyways. Got everything inside, dry, and the party continues. Now the coordinator disappears. She didn't tell any of the vendors she was being released at dinner. That's a strange time to bail on an event especially one that is experiencing hiccups like this in my opinion. Did I mention the maid of honor and bride found her in the back eating before they even got the food out onto the buffet? Wow!!!! That's not a good look. Anyways. Food finally comes out and all seems back on track. Nope...now it's twenty minutes past 7 and and champagne was supposed to be poured for toasts a 7. Not a huge deal, things sometimes run behind, and twenty minutes is easy to makeup. But at this point there's nobody to run the show except the guests and a banquet manager that might as well have stayed home. The maid of honor was about to pour champagne herself. She told me she'd like me to take charge. So I talked to the banquet manager about moving the dance portion of the event indoors because of the rain and she said they couldn't move the buffet. I asked her as kindly as I could at the moment, You can't move it, or you won't move it? There's a difference. After going back and forth and the bride directly putting me in charge I went in to the kitchen and told the severs to pour the champagne right away, and move the buffet somewhere else. BOOM! Kicked off dancing and the guests had a blast the rest of the night. The whole point here is that It shouldn't be this difficult. We need to work as a team and learn to make adjustments on the fly. in this business. That's what it takes and if you can't, or won't adjust you are in the wrong profession! I love my couples, I love the vendors I get to work with to make these events succeed. But man sometimes it's a real challenge. Be prepared, work with one another, smile, do your best because it's someone's dream you're part of. Make it work! No excuses, no problems, just solutions! Period! Let's do better in 2024!
