Moody Makes History and Impacts Wildcats Football
Senior quarterback #9 Josh Moody has made a huge impact on Nitro football. His talents, along with other standout Wildcats football players have helped turn around a program that has struggled for seventeen years. Josh's talent only comes around every couple of generations.
West Virginia High School history was made by Josh, but readers will need to continue to near the bottom of this article to feel and realize the career Josh had.
Josh played his first two years of high school football at Buffalo High School in Putnam County. He played sparingly during his freshman season at quarterback. But as a freshman, you could see he had potential as he completed 25 of 35 passes (71.4%) for 315 yards and 6 TD’s, with only 1 interception. Buffalo finished 4-5 during the 2021 season.
In 2022, Josh became the starting quarterback for the Bison in his sophomore year. He completed 138 passes on 250 attempts (53.2%) for 2,222 yards and 19 TD’s. He was named to the Class A All-State Honorable Mention team on a team that had a record of 3-7.
NOTE: NSN researched Josh’s years at Buffalo. Newspaper articles & box scores, Youtube livestreams, and Hudl videos were used to rebuild his statistics. Information is partially missing from his freshman season in a game against Ravenswood.
During the summer of 2023, Josh transferred to Nitro and earned the starting job immediately. He completed 209 passes on 327 attempts (63.9%) for 3,711 yards and 49 touchdowns. He helped lead Nitro to their first post season game in sixteen years and was named to the West Virginia AA All-State 2nd Team and the Cardinal Conference 1st Team. Nitro finished the season with a 7-4 record.
This past season, Josh completed 241 passes on 345 attempts (69.9%) for 3,846 yards and 40 touchdowns. Again, under his leadership, the Wildcats advanced into the playoffs, finishing with a 10-2 record. His post season awards include Cardinal Conference 1st Team, with All-State honors to be announced shortly after the post season ends.
