For the last few months, the board, which opened public hearings on each of the four proposed houses in July, has focused on the plans of builder Matthew Pantofel to construct two of the four houses — one at 7 Marsden Street and another right behind it at 9 Marsden Street. Plans for two others next to them at 11 and 15 Marsden have been put on hold for now.

By Stephen J. Kotz The Sag Harbor Board of Historic Preservation and Architectural Review made little progress on Thursday, December 12, as it continued its review of a proposal to construct four houses on Marsden Street. For the last few months, the

“Two of my favorite films this year, ‘Megalopolis’ and ‘The Brutalist,’ tell the story of intrepid architects whose art — through the use of space, materials, light and the landscape — envisions a better world,” explained Giulia D’Agnolo Vallan, Sag Harbor Cinema Arts Center's artistic director. “It made me think of how much utopia is a fitting cinematic subject. Film has dreamed the future so many times.”

The cinema is hosting “The Shape of Homes to Come,” a special screening event on Sunday at 4 p.m. The event will feature architect Raffaella Bortoluzzi, founder of Raffaella Bortoluzzi Architecture, and journalist Filippo Brunamonti discussing the former’s project involving 3D printing to build housing for underprivileged communities and a short film he executive produced focusing on the project. After that, attendees will get to watch the 1936 H.G. Wells adaptation “Things to Come” and see how hopes for the future were seen through architecture decades ago.

The Sag Harbor Cinema's program illustrates how architecture can shape the future, both inside and outside the movies.

In 2002, the town paid David Schellinger $5.2 million to remove the development rights off 107.6 acres of land, but the town, which had tried and failed to purchase the land outright, raised concerns about the potential for additional clearing and other uses that could degrade the property.

Trustee Aidan Corish, who served on the Sessions panel, said a high priority for next summer would be to find parking outside of the business district for employees. He said he did not think the village could solve the parking shortage for the estimated 400 employees who drive into the village each day, but if it could find spaces for 100 of them, it would be a step in the right direction.

By Stephen J. Kotz The Sag Harbor Village Board announced that it would hold a workshop at 5 p.m. on Monday to solicit public comment on the issue of parking in the business district. The workshop follows an Express Sessions panel discussion on Thurs

Mayor Chris Fiore said that Matt Daly, the owner of North Fork Natives in Mattituck, had delivered approximately $300,000 worth of planting material for a fraction of its cost, which will be paid by the nonprofit the village created to support the development of the property.

The evidence may be anecdotal, but North Haven Village Trustee Claas Abraham, who oversees the village’s 4-Poster program, said the deer feeding stations, which apply a coating of the insecticide permethrin to a deer’s neck and shoulders when it bends down to eat the corn the station provides, are having a marked impact on the number of disease-carrying ticks that are being found in the village’s woods and fields.
