The September-October 2024 issue of Catholic Herald magazine has been published. The theme for this issue is the vocation of marriage. The digital edition of the magazine is available at https://catholicmagazines.org/magazine-archive/catholic-herald/sac0924

In the cover story, newlyweds Xitlalic and Arnold Barajas Martinez of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Sacramento describe how the decision to be married in the Church "completely changed everything." They describe it as a journey of "humbling ourselves" and acknowledging "we cannot do it alone."

Other stories in this issue include Bishop Jaime Soto's column on "A love story that never gets old"; how Frank and Beckee Lienert of St. Mary Parish in Sacramento found love with online dating and discovered "intent and purpose" for a sacramental marriage; how Brian and Taryn Stiger of Our Lady of Grace Parish in West Sacramento received their sacraments of initiation at the Easter Vigil in 2024 and had their marriage blessed in the church; and how Augustina and Aaron Kuen of Good Shepherd Parish in Elk Grove are grateful to God for the understanding of their marriage vows, as they cope with his rehabilitation from a serious medical condition called rhabdomyolysis which deprived his brain of oxygen for a time.

This issue also includes a Theology 101 column on "Encountering Jesus in the Sacrament of Marriage"; a statement on "Radiate Love," from the Catholic bishops of California, on their new initiative to encourage and inspire marriage; and a special report on "There's no such thing as a perfect marriage."

“Our faith calls us to pray, work, and advocate for protections that allow all laborers to thrive,” said Archbishop Borys Gudziak and Bishop Mark J. Seitz in a joint reflection for Labor Day (Sept. 2). The bishop chairmen called for a more just economy that honors the human dignity of all who labor, inclusive of those who have newly arrived in the country, as well as those whose families have been here for generations. The bishops also addressed affronts to the dignity of children, who have been identified by some as supplemental sources of labor amid widespread worker shortages.
