VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT CAUGHT WITH LOADED GUN AND TWO KNIVES ON CAMPUS 🤦🏻‍♂️

From Sac Sheriff:
Earlier this afternoon, Elk Grove Unified School District staff was advised of a Valley High School student observed with a firearm during lunch. The witness also reported that the student’s sibling had been carrying the gun on campus the day before.

Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputies and ElkGrovePD Officers assigned as School Resource Officers for the Elk Grove Unified School District immediately detained both students on campus without incident.  The 15-year-old student in question had a fully loaded handgun with a 14-round magazine, a folding knife, and a fixed-blade knife inside of their backpack.  The 16-year-old sibling was in possession of pepper spray, which is also illegal to carry on a school campus.

The 15-year-old was arrested and booked into Sacramento County Juvenile Hall on multiple charges, including minor in possession of a firearm, minor in possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm on a school campus, possession of ammunition on a school campus, possession of knives on campus, and possession of a high-capacity magazine.

The 16-year-old sibling was issued a citation for possessing pepper spray on a school campus and released to their parents.

No threats were made toward the school, staff, or other students.

Suspect Barricaded Himself In The Garage & Tried To Start A Fire Inside Before Officers Drove The Armored Van Through The Garage 🤦🏻‍♂️

From Rocklin PD:
Last night, Patrol responded for a welfare check of a subject experiencing a mental health crisis. During the call, officers evacuated the family out of the residence due to safety concerns and determined the subject was isolated in the garage. The Crisis Negotiation Team was called to assist with negotiations with the subject to come out of the garage. However, officers soon noticed liquids being poured from the garage, weird smells, and heard the subject make statements of wanting to light something on fire. An officer drove the tactical response vehicle (TRV) to the scene to provide mobile cover for officers.

COPPS responded with a drone and spotted an object on fire near one of the sides of the garage. A short time afterwards, officers noticed flames and smoke coming from inside the garage and a decision was made to force entry with the TRV into one of the garage door panels. The subject exited the garage a short time after and was detained without further incident. Once cleared, City of Rocklin Fire Department moved in to extinguish the fire inside of the garage.

Collaboration between all officers, teams, and departments makes successful resolutions like these possible.

97-YEAR-OLD KILLED BY HER ADULT GRANDSON & HIs GIRLFRIENDS ON AMERICAN RIVER DRIVE 😳

From Sacramento Sheriff:
Yesterday afternoon, Sacramento County Sheriff’s North Patrol Deputies responded to a residence on the 4200 block of American Drive after neighbors called for a welfare check on their 97-year-old neighbor, who lived alone and had not been seen or heard from for a couple of days.  Upon their arrival, the elderly female’s 40-year-old grandson, Brian Wiggins, and his girlfriend, 31-year-old Dozsha Beckwith, answered the door.  Wiggins told Deputies his grandmother had just got in Uber to visit his father, who was in an assisted living facility.

Deputies observed a section of a carpet that had been removed, along with several safes in the living room that appeared to have been broken into, and the home appeared to have been ransacked. Concerned for the physical welfare of the elderly resident, both Wiggins and Beckwith were detained, and Deputies searched the inside of the residence to no avail. Deputies then searched a vehicle parked inside the garage, which was registered to Wiggins. It was there they made the gruesome discovery of the victim’s deceased body in the trunk of the vehicle.

Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene, collected evidence, and interviewed witnesses. Detectives learned that Wiggins and Beckwith forced their way inside of her home, looking for a place to stay. When the victim told them to leave, Wiggins beat his grandmother to death. He and Beckwith then placed her body in the trunk of his vehicle. Both Wiggins and Beckwith were formally arrested: Wiggins for murder and Beckwith for burglary and accessory after the fact. Both were booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail and are scheduled to appear in court on January 28.

The victim’s identity will be made available by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office in accordance with their protocols.

RETAIL THIEVES ARRESTED AND RELEASED BY COURTS

From Sac Sheriff:
Last Friday, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Property Crimes detectives were contacted by loss prevention specialists with Ulta Beauty, regarding two suspects believed to have been involved in large-volume thefts which had occurred in two of their Sacramento County locations.  Coincidentally, the two had been detained by security officers at Nordstrom’s Rack on Ethan Way for a separate retail theft incident.

Detectives responded and were able to connect both detained suspects with the earlier thefts.  A search of the suspects’ vehicle revealed over $19,000 in product taken from the two Ulta locations earlier in  the day.  The suspects were identified as 21-year-old Nicool RiveraMartinez and 24-year-old Estefan Rodriguez, both of San Bernardino County.  A list of Ulta locations throughout northern California was located in their vehicle along with the stolen merchandise.

Both suspects were initially booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for PC 490.4 - Organized Retail Theft; and Detectives secured a bail enhancement of $100,000 along with an examination of funds enhancement. However, on January 22, both RiveraMartinez and Rodriguez were released by the courts on their own recognizance. They are scheduled back in court on February 18.

Detectives believe both suspects have been involved in other unreported retail theft crimes throughout the region. If you are a business owner or employee, and recognize either RiveraMartinez or Rodriguez from incidents at your business, please contact the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office at 916-874-5115
