WASHINGTON POST AWARD WINNING CARTOONIST ARRESTED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE MATERIAL POSSESSION

From Sacramento Sheriff:
Sacramento Valley Internet Crimes Against Children Detectives (ICAC) conducted an investigation stemming from a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) related to someone uploading Child S*x Abuse Material (CSAM), also referred to as child po*******hy. The tip was related to 18 files containing CSAM. The investigation continued, and a total of 134 videos of CSAM were located and linked to the same account, owned and controlled by 49-year-old Darrin Bell.

Yesterday morning (January 15), ICAC Detectives served a residential search warrant at Bell’s home. Detectives recovered evidence related to the case, as well as computer-generated/AI CSAM. Bell was subsequently arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for the possession of CSAM. He is currently in custody being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court on January 17.

This case was the first arrest by Sacramento Valley ICAC where possession of computer-generated/AI CSAM was charged against a suspect (the law changed on January 1, 2025, to include AI-generated material as a criminal offense).

Bell is a well-known cartoonist, having been featured in several prominent publications. His booking photo is not available for public release, per California law.

Two Males Arrested Age 36 & 37 For Elk Grove Macy’s Burglaries😬

From EG PD:
We’ve been eager to share this story but had to wait due to an ongoing investigation. Now, we’re able to finally share the details!

Macy’s in Elk Grove was burglarized twice in December, with the most recent incident occurring on December 30, 2024. Detectives immediately began their investigation and were able to identify the suspects as Felix Ruiz (36) and Vinh Dang (37).

Both Ruiz and Dang were arrested on December 30th. But the work didn’t stop there—detectives obtained and executed search warrants, uncovering more than $6,000 worth of stolen watches and jewelry linked to the December 30th burglary. Additional evidence connected Dang to the first burglary at Macy’s on December 12th.

Some solid detective work led to two individuals being held accountable and the recovery of stolen property.

Nearly 500 Illegal Fi****ms Removed From The Streets In 2024🔫

From Sac Sheriff:
In 2024, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Gang Suppression Unit was hard at work keeping our community safe. Through proactive investigations and enforcement, they successfully removed nearly 500 illegal fi****ms from the streets of Sacramento County and arrested over 350 individuals, many of which were violent gang members.

By focusing proactive efforts toward illegal fi****ms and gun violence while remaining abreast of gang-related activity in our region, the goal of GSU is to disrupt the cycle of violence before it escalates. Their efforts played an integral role in the downtick in homicide cases and gang violence in the unincorporated areas of Sacramento County in 2024.
