Last night, we arrested and charged a man for Soliciting a Child by Computer to Commit Sexual Acts.
On the evening of April 27th, our Investigators were contacted by an individual informing them that an adult man was preparing to meet whom he thought was a 14-year-old girl for s*xual activity. The individual identified themselves as a member of the group Minor Defense Force and provided Investigators with the content of the conversations between the man and the ’14-year-old girl.’ Investigators immediately took action to verify the information and gather the facts. They then consulted with the DA’s Office before meeting the man in a public parking lot at the arranged time.
Thomas James Dibona, a 25-year-old white male of High Point, was arrested last night and charged with Soliciting Child by Computer. NCGS 14-202.3(a) A person is guilty of solicitation of a child by a computer if the person is 16 years of age or older and the person knowingly, with the intent to commit an unlawful s*x act, entices, advises, coerces, orders, or commands, by means of a computer or any other device capable of electronic data storage or transmission, a child who is less than 16 years of age and at least five years younger than the defendant, or a person the defendant believes to be a child who is less than 16 years of age and who the defendant believes to be at least five years younger than the defendant, to meet with the defendant or any other person for the purpose of committing an unlawful s*x act. Consent is not a defense to a charge under this section. Mr. Dibona appeared before the Magistrate and received a secured bond of $10,000.00. He is currently confined to the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center (FCLEDC). The investigation continues and more charges are anticipated.
“The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, the Office of the People, would like to thank all involved in assisting to remove a predator from our community and saving our most valued treasures, our children. This incident is a true testament that we are better together, stronger together, and safer together.” Sheriff Bobby F. Kimbrough, Jr.
The Minor Defense Force (MDF) is based out of Winston-Salem. MDF focuses on “discovering, conversing and ‘meeting’ with adults who engage in predatory behavior towards children. (…) Each word, picture, video, call, and ultimately ‘meeting’ is recorded and then handed over to the appropriate authorities.”
