🎥 ✨ to an unforgettable interview in my TV career. 🇺🇸 On September 19, 2019, I had the incredible opportunity to interview former FBI Director James Comey. As the evening news anchor for KCRA-TV in Sacramento, I was tasked with interviewing him in front of thousands of people at the Memorial Auditorium for the Sacramento Speakers Series. It was a challenging experience, as I knew half the audience admired him while the other half held a different opinion.

At that time, the nation was engulfed in a highly controversial period, centered around the relationship between James Comey and President Donald Trump. Comey’s new book, aptly titled “A Higher Loyalty,” had just been released, which delved into the events and conversations that transpired between them.

The controversy stemmed from Comey’s role as the FBI Director and his involvement in investigations related to the 2016 U.S. Presidential election. The public was captivated by the unfolding events, which included Comey’s handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails and his subsequent firing by President Trump.

🎙️ Presenting in front of such a diverse audience was both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. But I knew the importance of preparation and embracing my own confidence. I understood the significance of being well-prepared for such moments, whether it’s an interview on-camera or speaking on stage. The experience taught me the power of stepping outside my comfort zone and moving past my fears to deliver my best.

✨In the end, the interview with James Comey exceeded my expectations. He proved to be friendly, funny, and refreshingly honest. It was a pleasant surprise for the audience, considering the events and controversy leading up to that moment. The experience reinforced the importance of not making assumptions and approaching each interview I conducted with an open mind.

🎤 Reflecting on this moment reminds me of the transformative power of preparation, confidence, and authenticity- especially when you’re in front of an audience. Embrace these qualities in your own journey as a communicator and watch your impact soar! 💫

2018: I was asked to interview the legendary John Cleese in front of a packed LIVE audience in Sacramento. It was an absolute dream come true… but preparing for it didn’t feel that way!

🌟 For those (younger friends) who don't know, John Cleese is a comedic genius and a founding member of the iconic Monty Python troupe. His wit and talent have left an indelible mark on the world of comedy.

😄✨ Heres the problem… I’d never seen any of those movies & really didn’t know much about him. I wasn’t even 40 yet! Imagine how let down our audience would’ve been if they knew that…

So… I turned my nerves into action & prepared like it was a FINAL.

💫 I dove into his new book, watched his movies, researched the heck out of him and discovered what an incredible person he is - so kind, genuine, and full of wisdom. By the end of our interview, we went deep, learned even more about his life and yes… I even made HIM laugh a time or two!! We were fast friends (and he even suggested we go on the road together! 🚀🎭😂)

🎤This experience taught me that sometimes, all it takes is pushing past your fears and embracing new opportunities. Say YES. Don't let nerves hold you back - just go for it! And as always, PREPARE.💪✨

😅 Do you get nervous in front of people? Does being on stage give you anxiety? Are you struggling with how to stand out at work because you’re the only woman in the board room?

Trust me, you’re not alone.

I STILL get nervous, even after 20 years on the air as a television news anchor! 📺

The butterflies still hit me right before I go on stage, host a show, or fill-in on the radio.

But I still say YES!!!

So much of this is about mindset and feeling prepared. (Looking fabulous with your favorite outfit and good makeup helps, too… yes- even on the radio! 😂)

🎥 One of my favorite events to cover in my news career was the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

My photographer and I were with the California delegation and it was up to the two of us to come up with consistent, strong stories to tell all week long. I spent time doing a lot of research beforehand and landed some pretty big interviews, including our “bum rush” interview with then CA Governor Jerry Brown, after his handlers turned us down for an interview. (Don’t tell me no!!!)

I learned so much on this trip about time management, perseverance, dedication, professionalism, camaraderie, and storytelling. I’m really proud of what we were able to accomplish and get to you LIVE every night on our NBC affiliate, KCRA.

I still use some of what I learned that week with my on-camera/presenting clients today- how to prepare, look & sound professional, being calm during a crazy storm, how to focus and simplify difficult terms so your audience understands, and how to be entertaining and fun.

I’m forever grateful to be at the front row of historical events and share them with the world at the #1 TV station in Sacramento! 📺

What a pleasure it was to moderate the 2023 Sacramento Business Review put on by the Sacramento Business Journal.

We took a deep dive into our region’s outlook and covered topics like the labor markets, small business health, consumer sentiment, real estate, healthcare, and much more. Sacramento continues to thrive and push ahead- we seem to navigate changes well and this year will be no different.

When I look back on just the past few months, I feel so blessed to be able to do what I love. Wow- it’s been crazy busy!!! Working with incredible clients both locally & nationally has brought me so much joy and meaning to this next chapter of my life.

Leaving my career as a news anchor has opened up so many doors and allowed me to use my skills to help people- it’s such a gift to be on the mic, but in a different way! Thank you for all your support & trust in me. ❤️

The number of homeless people in Sacramento County has now SURPASSED that of San Fransisco. This is a huge turning point and a great opportunity for a deeper discussion on the lack of action from local leaders to handle the growing problem. Without affordable housing and wrap-around services to help with mental health, this will only get worse.

It's time to take action now.

I hope you'll take a few minutes to listen to two interviews recently done by Kitty O'Neal of KFBK News Radio. Dianna Poggetto, the Executive Director of the American River Parkway Foundation, and the CEO of one of the biggest local business banks Five Star Bank, James Beckwith, who was just named UCP’s “Humanitarian of the Year”, are both helping to bring more awareness to this problem and working diligently to find solutions.
