The Rye City Council is considering a six-month building moratorium on multi-family and non-residential development projects. After an initial discussion at Wednesday night's meeting, the council set a Jan. 21 public hearing to further debate the matter.

The moratorium proposal is intended to give the council time to evaluate whether the city’s current zoning laws should be amended to preserve aspects of the community’s character.

Scout — a 15-pound mini Goldendoodle who doesn't like swimming — had chased after a flock of geese on the private golf club's greens, only to realize that "she wasn't on grass anymore," her owner Caitlin Layng told The Record.

After breaking the surrounding ice, one Rye firefighter safely retrieved Scout from the pond and swam her back to shore.

The MTA is starting its Metro-North and LIRR Winter Weekend discount program for monthly ticket holders this weekend – an effort to encourage the use of mass transit as congestion pricing begins to take its toll on commuters Sunday.

The discounted $1 rates only apply to monthly ticket holders on Saturdays and Sundays starting this weekend, but can be used to go anywhere Metro-North and LIRR trains travel.

A man reported to police he was wakeboarding with a friend when they became separated, last seeing him swept up by the Long Island Sound current.
